EPICOR FLOATS CLOUD 9

Epicor Software put its newest version, Epicor 9, into the clouds in a new release called Epicor Express, which makes it a pioneer among veteran mid-market companies to get an Internet version to market. Express is designed for job shops and smaller manufacturers. The on-demand version packs in a variety of functions, including CRM, financial management, product, production, product and material management functionality, business intelligence, business process management and the Epicor ICE business architecture. It’s an all-in-one, except that name is sort of taken. The press statement that an “affordable monthly fee” that covers software, hardware, operating systems, support, training sources and on-going system maintenance and upgrades. The Temptations’ s song, Cloud Nine, could be a good theme. “You can be what you want to be.” However, I suppose the line, “You’re a thousand miles from reality” probably doesn’t fit the image. AICPA MOVES TOWARD CITP EXAM

AICPA logoMany readers have received the credential from the American Institute of CPAs called the Certified Information Professional, an IT designation available only to CPAs. However, all of them, to my knowledge, qualified based on experience and none took the exam that was once offered. That's going to change in about a year when a new test hits the market, according to Jim Bourke, the CPA who heads the CITP committee. Read more...

SWK DROPPING QBES

Jeff RothSWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J., has decided to drop QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions after carrying the Intuit product for 18 months in favor of regaining its status as a Sage Select reseller.  SWK CEO Jeff Roth said with his company having added Sage’s X3 product recently, the company is moving towards larger, enterprise products. “QBES just isn’t a fit with our future growth strategy,” he said. INTACCT NAMES PROFESSIONAL SERVICES VP

Intacct, a San Jose, Calif.-based vendor, has named Larry Blair as VP of professional services. Intacct, which markets Internet-based accounting applications, hired Blair to professional services delivery, operations and consulting partner support. He is charged with expanding its implementation partner program. These partners work along with internal consultants on customer implementations. He was previously president of Riveli Consulting, a boutique-consulting firm that helped clients optimize services and sales business operations.  Before that, he led global sales  Mercury Interactive, an IT software company that is now owned by Hewlett-Packard.

VARS PITCH IN MORE DELTEK REVENUE

Deltek spelled out in its form 10-Q for the first quarter ended March 31 something it didn’t address specifically in its earnings call for the period, the percent of its revenue coming from VARs. But the SEC form shows that for the most recently ended period resellers represented 10 percent of license income, up from 9 percent a year earlier. That would translate into about $1.4 million in sales to the VARs for first quarter compared to roughly $1.01 million a year ago, which is actually a good boost in dollars to the VARs. Read more...

EVEREST FOUNDER JOINS ACUMATICA

Acumatica, which makes Internet-based accounting software, has hired Ali Jani, the founder of the former Everest Software, as VP of product management. The press release from the Bethesda, Md.-based Acumatica said Jani pioneered the first “all-in-one ERP solution for multi-channel SMBs.” Everest was originally known as iCode. At Everest, Jani was responsible for product development and the business direction of Everest since its acquisition by Versata Software in August.  Read more...

BERMAN LEAVES SWK

Lynn K. Berman, who founded SWK Technologies, is leaving the company, in the usual words, to pursue other opportunities. Berman founded the Livingston, N.J.-based reseller in the 1980s and led it through its purchase by Trey Resources in 2004. SWK provides all of Trey’s revenue. Berman is winding up key projects and sales opportunities before her departure. SWK sells Sage's MAS 90/200/500 line and recently took on its high-end X3 manufacturing application.

UNIVERSAL SEEKS VARS, CPAS

Add another vendor's name to the “Great VAR Hunt of 2010.” Universal Accounting Software, based in Edgewater, N.J., came to the N.J Society of CPAs business and technology show this week to enlist accountants as resellers and referrers. It was a first for the company, says Arleen Coletti, sales VP. Universal has some resellers, but it had not exhibited at accounting shows. Coletti says Universal would like to involve accountants because, “they are the best ones to evaluate the applications.” Read more...

EXACT SAYS AMERICAS REVS STABILIZE

Exact has released an interim management statement—meaning there aren’t a lot of details—that says revenue for the Netherlands and the Americas stabilized for the first quarter of 2010. Stabilized was explained as meaning organic revenue was “almost flat” for the Americas and the Netherlands although the direction of the almost was not given. However, total company revenue of $66.3 million was down by 7.1 percent from a year earlier. Read more...

TRIBRIDGE BUYS HEALTHCARE MSP

Tribridge, a Tampa, Fla.-based Dynamics reseller, has acquired the Chicago-based Mercatus Group, which provides managed services to health care providers. Mercatus’ Web site describes the unit, which now operates with the added tag “a Tribridge Company”, as operating in the areas of practice automation, billing optimization and practice operations.
