NetSuite could add 50 to 100 resellers to its channel this year, according to comments made by CEO Zach Nelson in this week’s first-quarter earnings call. Nelson provided no firm target for growing the channel after noting that “100 qualified resellers”, who handle other midmarket financial applications, contacted the company in response to its SP100 program which offers a one-year deal that gives switching resellers 100-percent margin.

MICROSOFT OFFERS THREE USERS FOR ONE DOLLAR

The headline on Microsoft's Dynamics Finance Community page sounded very interesting: "Have you outgrown Microsoft Office Accounting?" That offered those moving to Dynamics GP 2010 the opportunity to buy three users for one dollar. Of course, if there had been enough Office Accounting customers to make this worthwhile, Office Accounting would still be on the market.

Deltek has filed a $200 million shelf registration with the SEC, which technically tells us very little other than the fact just stated. The registration lets Deltek issue a combination of securities, whether stock, debt, rights or warrants, when needed or it feels market conditions are right. There was no use of proceeds stated. You can speculate of kinds of possible uses such as an acquisition or paying down debt. But in any case, the balance sheet for December 31 shows the Herndon, Va.-based company has reduced debt and increased cash over the last year.

NELSON BASHES RIVALS IN NETSUITE EARNINGS CALL
- Friday, 07 May 2010
- News and Analysis

NetSuite needs a new metric for its earnings calls – the ratio of time spent discussing the results for the quarter compared to the time spent trashing the competition. It reached a new high this week as CEO Zach Nelson did his customary attack on SAP and its BusinessByDesign, which is coming to market in force this summer after a long delay. But he also dealt out harsh comments to Microsoft which had offered a deal for NetSuite customers who moved to Dynamics.

MICROSOFT MIRED IN COMMUNICATIONS MESS
- Friday, 07 May 2010
- News and Analysis

One of the more startling discussions at Convergence involved hearing how channel members get calls from Microsoft employees asking who they should talk to at ... (drum roll) Microsoft. Couple that with ISVs who were not surprised at reports of conflicting statements from Microsoft on various issues and the image of Microsoft as suffering from bureaucratic hardening of the arteries gets strong. This is not the first time reports like this have surfaced.

- News and Analysis

Pay for the two top executives at NetSuite, CEO Zach Nelson and founder and chairman Evan Goldberg, fell from the clouds in 2009 as the value of stock awards plunged and option awards were down, but not quite as sharply. Nelson received $3.24 million in compensation last year, down from $4.35 million for 2008. That was primarily due to the fact that he received $1.68 million in stocks awards last year, down 45.4 percent from the prior year.
