NELSON BASHES RIVALS IN NETSUITE EARNINGS CALL

NetSuite needs a new metric for its earnings calls – the ratio of time spent discussing the results for the quarter compared to the time spent trashing the competition. It reached a new high this week as CEO Zach Nelson did his customary attack on SAP and its BusinessByDesign, which is coming to market in force this summer after a long delay. But he also dealt out harsh comments to Microsoft which had offered a deal for NetSuite customers who moved to Dynamics. Read more...

MICROSOFT MIRED IN COMMUNICATIONS MESS

One of the more startling discussions at Convergence involved hearing how channel members get calls from Microsoft employees asking who they should talk to at  ... (drum roll) Microsoft. Couple that with ISVs who were not surprised at reports of conflicting statements from Microsoft on various issues and the image of Microsoft as suffering from bureaucratic hardening of the arteries gets strong. This is not the first time reports like this have surfaced. Read more...

COMPENSATION FOR TOP NETSUITE EXECS DROPS

Pay for the two top executives at NetSuite, CEO Zach Nelson and founder and chairman Evan Goldberg, fell from the clouds in 2009 as the value of stock awards plunged and option awards were down, but not quite as sharply. Nelson received $3.24 million in compensation last year, down from $4.35 million for 2008. That was primarily due to the fact that he received $1.68 million in stocks awards last year, down 45.4 percent from the prior year. Read more...

Blackbaud, which markets nonprofit accounting and fundraising software, showed improved results for the first quarter ended March 31, but company executives noted that the nonprofit business usually lags other markets in a recovery. SIMPLY ACCOUNTING GOES BILINGUAL IN U.S.

Sage North America doesn't actively sell Simply Accounting in the United States--its efforts here a few years ago weren't productive enough. But it is considering entering the market in this country with a Spanish/English version of the low-cost accounting package. A spokesman confirmed that discussion, and noted that although the product is listed at www.simplyacocunting.com, it is not being actively marketed in the U.S., yet. The Web page shows the Spanish/English of Simply Accounting 2010 as the only product in the line being sold  south of the Canadian border. Sage also offers a French/English version in Canada. Over the years, Simply has expanded its product offering in much the same way that Peachtree and QuickBooks have grown. There are 10-, 15-and 20-user packages available in the Enterprise version of Simply. Read more...
