Epicor and the Sage Group said this week that they would support the Microsoft Azure platform. This is one of those announcements that would be more news if Epicor Sage did not support Azure. It’s hard to imagine a mainline company avoiding the Microsoft cloud platform.

SAGE 50 PLANS DETAILED

Sage North America has rolled out its plans for its 2013 products of Peachtree and Simply Accounting which both get covered by the name Sage 50. That plan is part of a rebranding of major North American lines to be consistent with European naming conventions as Sage puts the American product under what it calls "a new era for Peachtree."

NET@WORK OPENS CHICAGO OFFICE

Net@Work, which was unsuccessful in trying to buy Hightower, has opened an office in Chicago. The New York City-based Sage reseller has been vying with Blytheco to be the biggest VAR in the Sage channel and when Chicago-area Hightower shut its doors earlier this year, Net@Work tried to buy the remains.

Epicor Software has released Epicor Cash Collect, a cloud and on premises-based extension of the Epicor 9 A/R module. Cash Collect, centralizes credit and collections activities in a single database and features integrated email and phone dialer options, along with full reporting and analysis.

Socius, one of three Master VARs, has become the last one to sign its first Sales Affiliate. The partner company is Direct Technologies, based in Youngstown, Ohio. The affiliate will conduct its Dynamics business under the Socius brand but will market other products and services as Demand Technologies.

Norriq, one of the Dynamics resellers hammered by the European economy, narrowed its loss for 2011 by 73 percent while revenue grew by 2.4 percent over 2010. One reason for being concerned with Norriq, which has subsidiaries in Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands, is that its Chairman Peter Thiell claimed Microsoft said it is the largest and most important partner in The Nordic Countries and “also in the most of Europe” because of the increase in new Dynamics NAV customers.

Expenses took a bite out of the bottom line at nonprofit vendor Blackbaud as the company had good sales growth. Net income for the first quarter ended March 31 dropped to $2.8 million, down 62.2 percent from $7.3 million in last year's corresponding period. Revenue grew to $94.7 million, up 9.3 percent from $86.6 million a year ago.

BLACKBAUD CEO'S PAY SINKS

Blackbaud's executives generally had a good year in compensation last year, except for CEO Marc Chardon after directors changed his compensation plan to base stock awards more on performance than on time. That happened after 53 percent of shares were voted against the compensation plan last year.

Tamlin Software Developers has acquired Dominion Software Consulting of Brevard, N.C. Both companies are AccountMate resellers. Based in Dallas, Tamlin, whose clients are primarily manufacturers and distributors, sells the Tamlin Manufacturing Conductor Software.
