NetSuite reported results for the first quarter ended March 31 this week with many of its usual themes. It had a net loss on a GAAP basis but a big improvement in non-GAAP net income. And CEO Zach Nelson took his usual swings at the competition.

The repositioning of SAP's Business ByDesign application up market is apparently going well. In a webcast regarding SAP's fourth-quarter results, the company pointed to success in that arena. "ByDesign is gaining further traction among larger customers," co-CEO Jim Hagemann-Snabe said during the discussion.

EXACT REVS UP; LICENSE SALES OFF

Exact has reported a 5.3-percent growth of EBITDA on a 3.8-percent increase in revenue for the first quarter ended March 31. But that was driven by increases in maintenance and service revenue with income from license sales down. There was also a sharp increase in revenue from Exact Online, which is not sold outside the Benelux countries.

Australian Pronto Software has named Nick Morton as its COO, a new position for the financial application vendor. Morton has worked at the company since November 1974. He was mostly recent branch manager for the company's Victoria and Tasmania territories.

ERP resellers that sell SugarCRM did not take home top awards from SugarCon, the conference being held this week in San Francisco. But since effort to enlist the accounting software crew is fairly new, they acquitted themselves well. (Does anyone convict themselves well? Hmm.)

SugarCRM did the usual things that vendors do at conferences - it spun out a lot of news. The important events include signing a new distribution agreement with Ingram Micro, announcing a certification program and forming an advisory board. All that came out of SugarCon 12, the company’s conference held in San Francisco this week.

NETSUITE EXEC PAY SAGS

Top NetSuite executives lost ground on compensation for 2011. It was a mixed bag as three had not-so-bad declines and two had a steep drop. Total pay for CEO Zach Nelson was $3.4 million for the year just ended, down 7 percent from $3.6 million. That change stemmed largely from options awards which fell to $523,142 from $671,770.

ARMANINO CONSULTING REVS UP 62 PERCENT

Armanino Consulting had very strong year in 2011 as the organization's revenue rose by 62 percent over 2010 results. The financial software vendor cited organic growth along with acquisitions and strengthening of some product lines as factors behind the $28.7 million in revenue last year, a significant jump from $17.2 million in 2010. The percentage increase appears to lead all the candidates for this year's Top 100 selection.

Sage has talked about having direct sales for areas in which resellers are not serving customers. That is apparently part rationale behind the job posting on Sage’s Career Center for individuals to serve as part of a new of a new license sales team. The key phrase in the posting appears to be the following: “Maximize revenue through direct sales to designated accounts.”
