Microsoft has released SQL Server 2012 to manufacturing, but as is usual, the product is already in use in a lot of places. The software giant also said it would release an additional limited preview of an Apache Hadoop-based service for Windows Azure before mid-year. When I saw the word “Hadoop”, I said, “Bless you” and then ran off to Wikipedia to catch up on my geek-ese. A limited preview of the Hadoop-based service was released in December. There is a bunch of data warehousing stuff coming out with the general availability of SQL Server 2010 on April 1. Call for details.

TRIBRIDGE SIGNS FIRST SALES AFFILIATE

Tribridge, a Tampa, Fla.-based Dynamics reseller, has signed its first Sales Affiliate under the Master VAR program. The deal involved Tulsa, Okla.-based 360 Consulting, which sells Dynamics GP and operates in Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and Arkansas.

Armanino Consulting, which had two customers win Microsoft users awards in 2011, got into the winner's circle again this year. The San Ramon, Calif.-based consulting arm of Armanino McKenna scored this time when its customer, Accuray, won the 2012 Industry Excellence Award. Armanino handles Dynamics AX and GP. Awards will be presented next week as users of Dynamics financial software gather at Convergence 2012 in Houston, Texas. Other winners include Computer Data Source, which takes home the Technology Innovation Award. Its reseller is New York-based Mig & Co., which sells Dynamics GP and SL. Dentsply International, a customer of Tectura, receives the Dynamic Business Award while ABC Computer's customer, the Saris Cycling Group, won the Productivity Award. ABC, based in Waupaca, Wis., sells Dynamics Nav. Tectura markets AX, GP and NAV.

QURIUS CHOPS LOSS

Qurius, the Dutch Dynamics reseller that just opened a worldwide development arm, sharply cut its loss for 2011 as revenue dropped by about 9 percent. Revenue for the year ended December 31 was about $97.6 million revenue. The loss from operations before restructuring was about $800,000, down about 82 percent from last year’s loss. That’s like saying I had a complete body before I restructured by lopping off my right foot.

Last year, Martijn Janmaat, the interim CEO of Exact, said his company’s products had been allowed to age. Although he left last summer, Janmaat apparently set in motion a renewal of the pipeline. In September, it released new Macola manufacturing and distribution titles and in November moved Macola into the cloud.

A reseller-organized event drew 100 consultants as the Sage channel is grappling with the question of whether Sage is listening to its members. About 50 attended in person in Lake Forest, Calif., another 50 by remote feeds. Much of the discussion surrounded the impact of recently announced subscription pricing. But concerns are broader than that.

CDC Software, which has been embroiled in a dispute over corporate governance, has replaced its board of directors. So take a breath: Four directors, including Peter Yip who also resigned as CEO, stepped down this month. They were replaced by Marcus Watson, the chief restructuring officer who is handling the company’s bankruptcy reorganization efforts; Joseph Stutz, general counsel of the company’s parent, CDC corporate; and Dwight Mamanteo, who manages a fund that is a major investor.

The new unit is called Arxis Cloud Solutions and has its own website at www.arxiscloud.com. K3 Business Technology Group, a significant Syspro reseller based in the United Kingdom, is examining proposals to buy the company at levels that are materially higher than its stock price. The bids came in after last fall's strategic review. However, management of the retail specialist is not in a hurry to sell out.
