Late in February 2011, SAP began its 2011 Partner Summit. A couple of weeks ago, I asked a company PR representative what plans were for this year and told it was in the works. Well, some of the things that happened at the Summit, such as the naming of top VARs, happened in January at the SAP North American Field Kick Off Meeting.

Intuit achieved more than $1 billion in revenue for its second quarter for the first time as sales of TurboTax Web and QuickBooks Online grew at rapid rates. Net income for the quarter ended January 31 was $118 million, a 61.6-percent increase from $73 million a year earlier. Second-quarter revenue of just over $1 billion was up 16 percent from the $878 million posted in the second quarter of fiscal 2011.

Convio, which is soon going to be part of Blackbaud, registered a sharp increase in net income for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31 as revenue for the periods went up by double digits. Fourth quarter net income was $12.5 million, a big jump from $65,000 in last year’s corresponding period.

The customer base for Intuit's QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions kept growing during the second quarter ended January 31. The number of active users hit 62,000 at the end of the quarter, up 21.6 percent from 51,000 for last year's corresponding period. The second-quarter total was also up from 60,000 users at the end of the first quarter.

SAP is announcing the availability of two out of three cloud-based initiatives that were launched by Google and SAP last year. These include a cloud application, SnapEdge Live Chat that was developed on the Google App Engine and integrated into Business ByDesign. Live Chat is available on the SAP store. ByD also got Android Support as SAP also released its player for Android-based devices on the Android app Store. The cloud-based application also had mobile functionality for iOS devices, Blackberry and Windows phones.

EXACT RESULTS FALL ON COUNTRY EXITS

Exact ended 2011 with a 5.5-percent drop in revenue because of the company’s closure of operations in several countries last year and divestment of its Sligo subsidiary in 2010. Net profit dropped to about $19.3 million, off by 55.7 percent from 2010. The bottom line was impacted by an impairment charge of about $24 million for its Longview operations.

Fishbowl Inventory has debuted a web-based CRM product, the Pipeline Contact Manager. The Salt Lake City, Utah-based software publisher says the product is available at pre-release pricing for a limited time. Pipeline is integrated with Fishbowl Inventory 2012. Pipeline features include lead tracking, task and opportunity tracking and custom fields.
