Avalara has begun a program to enlist payroll providers to sell its sales-and-use-tax software. This is in addition to programs to sign middle-market accounting software VARs and programs operated through vendors such as Sage North American. The payroll companies view sales tax issues as "an extension of compliance," says Pat Falle, SVP of sales for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-vendor.

Tom Miller, veteran of the Sage and Dynamics channels, has joined Net@Work; as leader of the VAR's Channel Partner group. It's the second high-profile hiring by a reseller this month of a former Sage executive. That follows the earlier hiring of Sam Hunter by SWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J. Most recently VP of channel management for Sage North America, Miller will spearhead the channel alliance program of New York-based Net@Work.

Microsoft has reportedly laid off about 60 partner account managers leaving smaller resellers confused about how they will be doing business with the company. The buzz is that there are still reps for nationally managed AX VARs, but everybody else is left with little way of interfacing with the company outside of websites. This is being read as a further step towards the validation of the view that AX is the favored child and that Dynamics GP, SL and NAV are somewhere down the list.

Of the CRM specialists named to the Microsoft Inner Circle at the Worldwide Partner Conference this month, one name is very familiar on the ERP side. And that is New York-based Infinity Info Systems, led by Yakov Wrocherinsky. Infinity has been notable as a top performer for both Microsoft and Sage, making the No.1 spot for Sage and also regularly being chosen as one of the top five Sage resellers.

Retail specialist Alfapeople has opened three offices in its move into Asia. The company has established a presence in China, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Heading the office in Shanghai, China is GM and shareholder Kenric Lee, former country manager for Tectura China, which Alfapeople calls the largest Dynamics VAR in China. AlfaPeople Middle East operates in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia, and Dubai, UAE.

Accounting and consulting firm, Armanino, has introduced Dynamic Insights, a reporting and analytics tool for Dynamics GP and AX. For financial reporting, the application can generate and distribute board and management reports without the assistance of IT and includes an audit trail to meet SOX disclosure and other regulatory compliance requirements.

Sage North America executives have been rotating in and out of the Sagemobile as they head across the country in the 50-day Sage Listens RV Relay. While Sage is setting out to show the channel and customers that it cares, something else occurred to me. As I entered the ballroom at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston, N.J. – home town of Sage VAR SWK Technologies – it struck me how few people there were from Sage that I know because of the turnover in the last two years.

Microsoft says revenue from Dynamics rose by 13 percent for the year ended June 30. The company does not disclose revenue and it did not provide a separate percentage report for fourth-quarter sales. However a comparison with prior quarterly reports shows an acceleration of sales. For the nine months ended March 31, Dynamics revenue was up 11 percent over the prior year.

The Asian market dented SAP’s results for the second quarter ended June 30 as the company reported an after-tax profit increase of 10 percent on a 4-percent rise in revenue. Those are IFRS results. The revenue drop was 3 percent in constant currencies. After tax profit is about $947.4 million, when converted at today’s euro exchange rate. Revenue was about $5.32 billion.
