EPICOR HIRES FORMER DELL EXEC

Donna Troy, EpicorEpicor has named former Dell executive Donna Troy as EVP vice president and general manager for ERP in the Americas. She was most recently Dell's VP and GM enterprise solutions, public large enterprise worldwide from February 2011 through 2012. She had been with the troubled hardware company in VP jobs since January 2008. Before that, she was EVP of Global SME Indirect Channels at SAP from July 2004 through April 2007 and served as SVP of global SMB for that company from July 2004 through April 2007. She spent 23 years at IBM from 1978 through 2001 and held a VP title.

SAGE: WE DID WHAT WE PROMISED

 Pascal Houillon, SageSomeone asked the night before the official opening of Sage Summit if I thought there would be excitement. "I hope not," I replied. "Haven't we had enough change over the last two years?" There were no revolutionary announcements and generally, shows shouldn't produce shocks and surprises for attendees. No, the most important statement from the stage, made by Pascal Houillon, CEO of Sage North America, and reiterated by Guy Berruyer, CEO of that Sage Group was this: "We said what we are going to do and we have done it."

APPLE’S MOBILITY TRIUMPH

ipadThere's nothing new about the thought that Apple has done well with mobile devices. But sometimes seeing it displayed in day-to-day life is still jarring. For example, during one keynote presentation at Sage Summit there was one MacBook and at least one iPad used during stage demonstrations. Five years ago, it would have been difficult to imagine that the day would come with Apple products would make it into that arena.

SAGE 100 REVENUE UP 13 PERCENT

 
Joe Langner,  SageSage 100 had 13-percent year-over-year growth for the last year. The number was provided by Joe Langner, EVP of mid-market solutions. Langner gave those numbers, not reported in the Sage financial statements, and others during a briefing at the Sage Summit conference in Washington D.C. The  number matches the 13-percent Dynamics growth that Microsoft reported for the year ended June 30. Neither company releases actual revenue for the product sales.

ACUMATICA FIELDS SOME MISSES

Acumatica's MissesThe minds that brought you the Acumatica Twins have now added a couple of Misses. Those are Miss Cloud ERP and Miss ERP Freedom who showed up at the sports bar at The Gaylord National during the first night of the Sage Summit conference. And so Acumatica continues its guerrilla marketing at competitors' events and whatever the other vendors think at least it's nice to have someone making the accounting software world more interesting.

AVALARA STARTS PAYROLL CHANNEL

AvalaraAvalara has begun a program to enlist payroll providers to sell its sales-and-use-tax software. This is in addition to programs to sign middle-market accounting software VARs and programs operated through vendors such as Sage North American. The payroll companies view sales tax issues as "an extension of compliance," says Pat Falle, SVP of sales for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-vendor.

TOM MILLER JOINS NET@WORK

Tom Miller, Net@WorkTom Miller, veteran of the Sage and Dynamics channels, has joined   Net@Work; as leader of the VAR's Channel Partner group.  It's the second high-profile hiring by a reseller this month of a former Sage executive. That follows the earlier hiring of Sam Hunter by SWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J. Most recently VP of channel management for Sage North America, Miller will spearhead the channel alliance program of New York-based  Net@Work.

MICROSOFT SACKS DYNAMICS PAMS

DynamicsMicrosoft has reportedly laid off about 60 partner account managers leaving smaller resellers confused about how they will be doing business with the company. The buzz is that there are still reps for nationally managed AX VARs, but everybody else is left with little way of interfacing with the company outside of websites. This is being read as a further step towards the validation of the view that AX is the favored child and that Dynamics GP, SL and NAV are somewhere down the list.
