SOCIUS PICKS UP N.J. AFFILIATE

TBSDynamics Master VAR Socius has signed TBS Automation Systems as its thirteenth sales affiliate. It’s the first signing in a few weeks by any of the three U.S. Master VARs.  Based near Cherry Hill, N.J., TBS carries Dynamics  GP.  The firm’s website says it carries Exact Macola, but it is not on the Exact list of VARs.

ACUMATICA HIRES JAEGER TO RECRUIT VARS

Dawn Jaeger, AcumaticaAcumatica has hired Dawn Jaeger, who had led channel development for SugarCRM. Jaeger was director of global channel development for SugarCRM from August 2011 until this week. Before that she was with SAP from January 2005 through July 2011 and was senior channel development manager for SAP Business ByDesign for the last 11 months or tenure there.

MCDERMENT: MARKET VOID SPURS LOW-END APPS

Mike McDerment, FreshBooksLast week's newsletter pointed to the continuing proliferation of online, low-end accounting packages as Reckon One was introduced in Australia. An interview with FreshBooks CEO Mike McDerment this week at the AICPA's Tech+ Conference brought in-depth discussion about the reasons. McDerment says it's because the zero-to-10-employee company, targeted by FreshBooks, has not been well served by more robust packages, even the low-end accounting software offerings.

SWK TO BUY FED VAR VICOR

Jeff Roth, SWK TechnologiesSWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J., has signed a letter of Intent to buy Vicor Business Services. Based in Bethesda, Md., Vicor is a Sage and Infor reselling and consulting firm involved in compliance-oriented federal contracting with U.S. government agencies. Terms were not mentioned in the press release issued by SWK's parent, SilverSun Technologies. However, it said Vicor has $1.2 million in annual revenue.

AMERICAN BYD CHANNEL MANAGER GONE

SAPKim Treaster, who led the North American channel for Business ByDesign, has left SAP. The company has not yet commented on a request about Treaster's status, but his email address at SAP is no longer active and a source says Treaster left SAP four to six weeks ago. What was the comment in the other item in this newsletter about channel programs stalling? The most recent title Treaster held was director of North American channels for Business byDesign.

SMITH: INTUIT NOT GOING UP MARKET

 Brad Smith, IntuitCEO Brad Smith's statement this month that Intuit will not go up market should not surprise anyone. It simply describes what we have seen in the way Intuit has operated distribution and development for QuickBooks Enterprise Suite. However, Smith's comments at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2013 Global Technology Conference marks a definitive statement about strategy that I don't remember Intuit having articulated so clearly. MBS: EXEC CHANGES COMING?

Michael Park, MicrosoftThe Dynamics channel is start to bubble with speculation that there are some serious executive changes likely at Microsoft Business Solutions. Since it feels like I rarely speak to the same people in executive interviews year-to-year at Convergence, I'm not sure if that's a new development. What seems more certain is that Michael Park, who was the MBS VP of worldwide sales marketing and operations from July 2009 through August 2012, has left to join HP, a company that can use an influx of talent.

NETSUITE INTROS SPECIALIZED PRODUCTS

NetSuiteNetSuite has rolled out specialized products for Demandware and Magento. The similar offerings seem to be a different product direction than we have seen from the San Mateo, Calif.-based cloud company, with both Demandware and Magento described as operating in an omni-channel environment.

VAR PROGRAMS STALLING

The combination of new players in the market and the move to the cloud in the last few years produced one of the strongest recruitment efforts in the VAR market in a long time. But in the last two years, many of those programs have stalled after a flurry of activity. Two years ago, SAP had the best-run channel conference I've ever attended in Savannah, Ga., a program that was disciplined in staying on message and saying the right things for the channel.
