INTUIT PLANS SMALL BIZ PLATFORM

Brad Smith, IntuitIntuit promises a "big reveal" at its show next week. As outlined by execs at September's Investor's Day, it may involve QuickBooks Online as a small business application hub. During the presentation, CEO Brad Smith said the average small business has 18 applications and wants to ensure that "all of these apps that a small business uses [will] flow in and out of QuickBooks" SVP Dan Wernikoff outlined how it might work: "It needs to be very simple. It needs to be integrated across many, many applications. It needs to be a single cloud.

INFOR INVESTS IN SALESLOGIX

Grant Halloran, InforInfor says it has significantly increased investment in Infor CRM (the former Saleslogix). The changes were described as including "increased scalability; market-leading user experience; and industry-specific functionality", helping to provide "strong sales and service capabilities." Once owned by Sage, the product was sold, along with Act, to Swiftpage early in 2103. Then this year, Infor purchased Saleslogix from Swiftpage, which said it wanted to concentrate on Act, leaving some of us to believe that was the plan all along.

UXC PLANS M&A HERE

UXC UXC became a force in the North American reselling channel by buying Tectura in December. In a presentation this month at the Merrill Lynch Emerging Stars Conference, the company says it will make more acquisitions after running the business here for six to 12 months. That's sort of, well, now. The company, which folded Tectura into UXC Eclipse, says the integration went well and is complete. UXC has strong expectations for the Dynamics market, which it said is performing according to plan, and expects to increase the company to more than roughly $88 million ($100 million in Australian dollars).

AVALARA SIGNS ACCOUNTMATE

Pascal Van Dooren, AvalaraAccountMate has become the latest accounting software vendor to integrate with Avalara's cloud product. The integration means AccountMate customers can use the AvaTax sales tax application from within AccountMate to calculate final sales tax amounts on invoices. The press release about the deal quotes Pascal Van Dooren as chief revenue officer. Although he has been previously quoted while in this position, Avalara did not issue a press release announcing the change.

QBES GETS SUB PRICING

intuit logoIntuit has introduced subscription for QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, its sort of low-end midmarket accounting package. The pricing was introduced on October 6 for what the company called "three feature-filled subscriptions." As with virtually everything surrounding the accounting side of Intuit these days, the change was introduced without an accompanying press release.

DEBATING SAGE 500'S FUTURE

Doug Deane, DSD Business SystemsA debate about whether Sage 500 was ever slated to be put down keeps circulating through the reseller community. The prevailing wisdom is Sage waffled on questions about the product's viability and has been trying to put the cat back in the bag for the last two years. The official version came on a LinkedIn discussion group from product manager Tammo Stubbe who wrote "... the truth is that Sage has absolutely no plans to retire Sage 500 ERP in 2017".

SAP UPPING BYD, B1 ACTION

Ken Lorenz, SAPThe recent appointment of Michael Schmitt as the new head of the SAP Business ByDesign operation appears to be one of a series of steps in putting some life into the low end of the publisher's product line. SAP has invited the press to a conference call on October 17 in which "We will outline our strategy and talk about our go-to-market model and road map for SAP Business ByDesign in the near future and beyond." The big gun on the call is Rainer Zinow, SVP, SAP Cloud from the mothership SAP SE (once known as SAP AG).

OPEN SYSTEMS BUYS ABS

Open SystemsWhen Open Systems says it has opened an office, that generally means it has acquired a reseller. In this case, the Minneapolis, Minn.-based software vendor has purchased Adaptive Business Solutions, based in Indianapolis, Ind. ABS has become Open Systems' Indiana Regional office. ABS was founded by president Brett Striegel in 1997. For the software company, this is the second purchase of a VAR this year.

CLOUD ERP, LOW PENETRATION

Two companies have recently reported statistics on how low cloud accounting penetration is among businesses. At his company's partner summit in August, Acumatica Jon Roskill, AcumaticaCEO Jon Roskill put the total at 7 percent for the midmarket and Intuit SVP Dan Wernikoff estimated the percentage for cloud financial products at small businesses as under 4 percent. In a more recent interview, Roskill said Gartner expects the midmarket share to hit 47 percent in five years; but that's still a ways from being the majority platform.

INTACCT HIRES CUMLEY

 Kevin Cumley, IntacctIntacct has hired Kevin Cumley as the new director of the Intacct Accountants Program. Cumley, who was most recent VP of strategic alliances at nonprofit vendor Abila, was previously president of Forepoint, a Sage and Deltek reseller. He reports of Taylor Macdonald, VP of channels. Cumley got to Abila after serving as a VP at Avectra starting in 2012.
