INTACCT STRIKES AMEX DEAL

Intacct has struck a deal with American Express that portends a much broader relationship in the payments arena. Payment service via Intacct's cloud-based accounting software starts with the Intacct Check Delivery. Business can send check payments to suppliers and GL automatically updates, as they always say, with the click of a button. Amex will write and mail the paper checks. But it is the promised additional "card- and non-card payment solutions" that the partners said are coming soon that interested attendees at this week's Intacct Advantage conference.

Unit4, which markets the Coda and Agresso lines, has established a Global Partner Organization. The Netherlands-based company has named Anwen Robinson as senior director to lead the group. Robinson, managing director of Unit4 U.K. and Ireland. Robinson has been replaced in the U.K job by Helen Sutton, who is currently running sales and marketing in those islands.

Xero held its first Xerocon North America in the fall of 2013 and then decided to skip the event this year. But this week, the New Zealand-based cloud accounting software vendor said it will have the second event in early June in Denver next year. Whatever the exact date, Xero is obviously regrouping in this country and needs to reassert some kind of message in the market in the United States.
AVALARA SNAGS $100 MILLION

Sales-tax services provider Avalara said this week it has raised $100 million in financing from an affiliate of Warburg Pincus. The Bainbridge, Island.-Wash.-based software company says its plans include international expansion and strategic acquisitions. "This investment by Warburg Pincus will allow us to put more dollars to work in our growth initiatives," said Avalara founder and CEO Scott McFarlane. Avalara said the new round brings the total it has raised to more than $200 million since 2004.
INTERDYN BMI BUYS LANAC

Minneapolis, Minn.-based Interdyn BMI has acquired another member of the Interdyn consortium. BMI has purchased Chicago, Ill.-based Interdyn Lanac Technology. A reseller of Dynamics GP and CRM, Lanac was owned by Dale May and was founded in 1985. The last count I had for Lanac was $5.6 million in revenue for 2010, submitted in 2012. May has declined to submit information for the Top 100 and VAR Stars selection for the last two years. In the 2012 submission, Lanac reported it had 23 employees.
HOLLRAH JOINS INTAACT

Kent Hollrah, a veteran of the nonprofit software market, has joined cloud vendor Intacct to lead its NFP program. Hollrah had been president of Orange Leap, which makes software to manage donor and constituent relationships with nonprofits. "This is the fastest-growing part of Intacct's business," he said during this week's Intacct Advantage conference in Orlando, Fla. Hollrah was CEO with the former Micro Information Products, which marketed the MIP line now owned by Abila.

Consulting and reselling firm Columbus says it is "executing a recovery plan" for its operations in the United States. That follows a 21.3-percent decline of sales here, reported in the company's financial results for the third quarter ended September 30. Columbus, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, described the efforts in this country as involving a "reorganization of their senior management structure, and a strengthening of the sales management and the sales team.

Prodware, a European Dynamics VAR, says operating income for the first half ended June 30 was about $12.3 million, an increase of 18.5 percent from the same period in 2013. Net income reached about $5.3 million, a decrease of 18.1 percent from last year's corresponding period. However, the year earlier results included a tax credit of roughly $1.1 million.

Inventory software vendor Fishbowl has introduced a new user interface with Fishbowl 2015. The company says Fishbowl Manufacturing and Fishbowl Warehouse "have been completely redesigned and updated with new module and toolbar icons, a new home screen", but wait there's more. Besides the new look there are speed and capacity improvements and the company has added an option to automatically commit inventory for orders, enabling the products to automatically reserve inventory for orders.

A meal spent with two accountants from Kentucky at Thomson Reuters Synergy conference this week produced a discussion of an interesting problem. They complained at length about the lack of payroll packages that can accommodate multiple local taxes that apply to one individual's income. They pointed to the problems in the Blue Grass state where county taxes can apply to employees who moving from one jurisdiction to another.
