AUTOTASK SEES SIGNS OF IT HIRING

Autotask, which markets managed services products to IT companies, said that more than 300 individual IT service companies placed new orders or upgrade orders in October. And it said that more than 1,000 new seats have been added to its subscriber base, which it reads as an indicator of renewed hiring.

The company also saw gains in 13 countries. More than 20 percent of its sales are made internationally. Autotask said growth had started to accelerate at the end of the third quarter and attributes part of the activity to sales of Taskfire, its Internet-based service desk.

NOVELL'S LINUX SALES STRONG

Open Source still doesn't come close to the revenue Windows generates. But Novell reported good gains in its Linux business for the year ended October 30. The company said it got $157 million of product revenue from open platform solutions with $149 million from Linux products. Read more...

CDC REJECTS NOTE CONVERSION

Normally debt conversion is not something I write a lot about. But with Trey Resources having renegotiated its debt, this very recent SEC filing by CDC Software was also interesting. CDC's affiliate, CDC Delaware Corp., holds $124.775 million in principal, which the company said represents 74.7 percent of the total outstanding on 3.75 percent Senior Exchangeable Convertible Notes due 2011.

TREY EXTENDS DEBT TERMS

Trey Resources, whose revenue is totally that of Sage reseller SWK Technologies, has gotten its lender, YA Global Investments, to extend the maturity dates on three separate issues of secured convertible debentures. All issued on Dec. 20, 2005, the debentures totaled $2,359,047 and Trey was in default on all three, which had maturity dates in 2007 and 2008. Those have all been extended to Dec. 31, 2010. As of September 30, the company owed $1,476,800 with accrued interest of $524,267. Trey has been exchanging stock for principal to pay down the debt and also issuing stock to pay accrued expenses and also the accrued salary of its former non-executive chairman, Jerome Mahoney, who agreed to leave in May. The debt renegotiation was in the company's 10-Q for its September quarter, but was spelled out more recently in SEC filings regarding amendments to the debenture agreements. Version 10.2 of Sage's MIP Fund Accounting software has a customer feedback portal to enable customers to submit ideas and feedback to product executives. That's somewhat of an evolution building on in-product promotion, in-product griping.
