HIRING ON THE CHANNEL EXEC SIDE

Last week's issue focused on reports of channel recruitment by several companies, including SAP. And events of the last two weeks support the idea that SAP is ramping up activity as it has hired a North American channel VP while SugarCRM, an open source vendor, picked up an SAP vet for its channel development. Microsoft and Intuit have agreed to integrate capabilities of Microsoft's Windows Azure and Intuit's Partner Platform so that developers can write more apps in the clouds. This announcement is aimed at small business, and it shows the push Microsoft is making for Azure, which is something of an operating environment for SaaS applications. Read more...

SAGE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES X3

sageIt was sort of a grand opening event as Sage had the worldwide launch of Sage ERP X3 yesterday in France; a grand opening in the sense the store has been open a few years. The newsiest part of this debut of the latest version of one of Sage’s worldwide products was that the company has created an international team to support the development of the Sage ERP X3 business. SAP HOSTING EVENT: HIRES CHANNEL VP

Before making any deep analysis about an SAP invitation to a channel event in Las Vegas in late February, I was thinking the company tends to have its get-togethers for Business One VARs about this time of year. But I was happy to hear from SAP. I thought maybe it had lost email privileges. Read more...

2009 SALES; THE 20 PERCENT SOLUTION

Two very good resellers reported that in 2009 they had revenue growth of more than 20 percent, which is akin to saying they found a cure for cancer, given the way the economy went last year. It's not wise to name them and I'll simply say they carry major midmarket lines. Read more...

EPICOR NAMES CHANNEL MANAGER

Epicor has named Sam Montana to head its worldwide channel, a move that comes as reports are coming in that Epicor would start growing its channel again. Montana, who has worked at Epicor for 12 years, has the title VP worldwide solutions, according to his Linkedin page.  The company announcement said he has been running the worldwide systems engineers operation. The announcement of Montana's new responsibility was made at Focus, a reseller event whose existence I think Epicor has only briefly acknowledged to the press (and which isn't mentioned on the Web site anywhere easy to find). The change in direction seems logical given that Epicor has said that its newest product, Epicor 9, puts it back in the financial software business. For the last few years, it has been heavily oriented towards manufacturing. Epicor channel efforts are always interesting since its CEO George Klaus spends a lot of time emphatically telling analysts and investors that the company is totally direct sales (which it isn't). Klaus most recently delivered this message in October in discussing Epic's third quarter results. He told analysts direct sales is one area that differentiates Epicor from other ERP vendors.
