NetSuite has acquired Retail Anywhere, which makes multi-channel retail management systems. Retail Anywhere was led by CEO Branden Jenkins who joined the Pasos Robles, Calif.-based company in 1998 and assumed his current position in 2002. He has become GM of NetSuite’s Retail/eTail operations.

Exact has shifted its annual Exact customer conference from the spring to the fall. The conference is being held in September this year, instead of the usual May and will focus on fewer products The company hopes to announce a venue next week. All of this reflects the major reorganization in Exact's operations that was done during the last year.

Avalara is bringing its sales-and-use tax technology to Europe. The company is planning on opening an office in London and the effort in the United Kingdom and European Union will be headed by Marshal Kushniruk, EVP of business development for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based vendor. Kushniruk is moving soon to the British Isles full-time.

IDC: CLOUD SKILLS IN SHORT SUPPLY

The demand for workers with skills in cloud-based I.T. is expected to grow by 26 percent annually through 2015 according to an IDC White Paper. However, the report, sponsored by Microsoft, concludes that worldwide managers failed to fill 1.7 million open positions because of the lack of trained applicants The paper is called Climate Change: Cloud’s Impact on IT Organizations and Staffing.

Accounting firm Sikich has acquired supply chain consulting firm Achieve Consulting. Based in Warrenville, Ill., the deal puts Sikich, based in Naperville, Ill., in a new line of business. Achieve owners Dave Forberg and Gregg Hague are joining Sikich as partners.
SCANSOURCE SUES AVANADE OVER AX

ScanSource, which distributes POS and barcode products, has sued Avanade for alleged bait-and-switch practices for a Dynamics AX implementation it claims Microsoft concluded was faulty. The plaintiff said has the project has ballooned from an initial cost estimate of $17 million to nearly $66 million and an installation of 11 months to three years with the system not yet live.

PLEX SYSTEMS GETS $30M

Plex Systems, which markets cloud-based manufacturing software, has raised $30 million in a venture capital investment. The funds were provided by Accel Partners. The company said the investment would support development of its cloud technology, which encompasses ERP, manufacturing execution, quality management, supply chain management and business intelligence.

INTUIT’S COOK SELLS $37.4M SHARES

Intuit founder Scott Cook closed out 2012 by selling a bit more than $37.4 million in the company’s stock during the second half of December. For Cook, it was the largest amount of Intuit stock sold in a single month in more than two years. The largest block was 266,666 shares sold on December 16 for $16.5 million.

The management of Retail Pro International, which makes software for the retail industry, has acquired the company. The deal was led by CEO and now owner, Kerry Lemos. As a product line, Retail Pro has been around for more than 25 years ago. The company’s product line includes Retail Pro Prism POS. However, the present company was formed in 2009.
