RETAIL PRO ADDS LOYALTY SERVICES

Retail Pro International has made available the AppCard customer loyalty service with its Retail Pro POS applications. The company said cloud-based AppCard requires no integration with the POS. The system works with both Retail Pro 9 and Prism and enables merchants to offer shoppers personalized offers, earn rewards and free gifts, and get live digital receipts via the AppCard smartphone app or Web account, AppCard also offers analytics with data accessible through a dashboard or by drilling down to reports. There is also a five-tier loyalty program so that customers can receive more rewards as they increase spending. Retailers can also tailor offers customers’ purchasing history, age, gender, buying preferences, geographic location

ADAPTIVE PLANNING HIRES SAP EXEC

Carolee Gearhart,  Adaptive PlanningAdaptive Planning has named SAP veteran, Carolee Gearhart, as VP of global channels and partners. Gearhart was global VP for SAP's OEM business from  November 2010 through December 2012 and had been VP of business development from April 2006 through October 2010. She was VP of global channels for PeopleSoft from 1992 through 2001. The Adaptive planning job is a new position and Gearhart's responsibility is to grow the channel from its current 400 members.

VP MILLER LEAVING SAGE

Tom Miller, SageTom Miller, the person most identified with the channel at Sage North America, is leaving on March 31. He joined in June 2009 in what was part of a Microsoft influx into the Sage employee base and has served as VP of channel management. The comments about Miller by Pascal Houillon, CEO of Sage North America, were very generous. "His contributions have been instrumental to the success of Sage, as well as our business partners," Houillon wrote in an organizational announcement.

DYNAMICS CRM, AX UP; REST DOWN?

Microsoft ended its second financial quarter on December 31. While we will not get the numbers until January 24, there is a lot of scuttlebutt swirling about in the channel. And the consensus is that Microsoft made its numbers with Dynamics AX and CRM, but did not with SL and NAV. The opinion on GP is mixed, but I'm going with a report from someone who I think has solid info that the company did not make its numbers on GP.

And all three of them have something to do with retail technology. Last week, it was the buyout of Retail Pro International by CEO Kerry Lemos. This week, it's NetSuite's acquisition of Retail Anywhere and Avalara’s pickup of the UPC Matrix Master database from TaxMatrix, which handles taxation regarding UPC bar-coded items. Read more...

AVALARA ACQUIRES UPC MATRIX MASTER

Mike Espenshade, Tax MatrixAvalara looks like it’s going to have a busy year. It started out 2013 with the announcement of its London office as part of its move into Europe. It followed this week with its purchase of UPC Matrix Master from TaxMatrix. The acquisition of database from the Harrisburg, Pa.-based company gives Avalara a big resource for serving the retail market.

NEW ERP VENDOR CROP IN U.S.

Jeff Tognoni, Jeeves Information SystemsThe United States is getting a new influx of ERP vendors. as they follow their customers across the ocean. The new entries include Sweden’s Jeeves Information Systems. In August, Jeeves got a new CEO, Jeff Tognoni, who had been CEO of Consona for nine years before that company merged with CDC Software to form Aptean. Consona was owned by Battery Ventures, as is Jeeves. Read more...

NETSUITE BUYS RETAIL ANYWHERE

Branden Jenkins, Retail AnywhereNetSuite has acquired Retail Anywhere, which makes multi-channel retail management systems. Retail Anywhere was led by CEO Branden Jenkins who joined the Pasos Robles, Calif.-based company in 1998 and assumed his current position in 2002. He has become GM of NetSuite’s Retail/eTail operations. Read more...

EXACT CHANGES ENGAGE TIMING

Kip Martin, ExactExact has shifted its annual Exact customer conference from the spring to the fall. The conference is being held in September this year, instead of the usual May and will focus on fewer products The company hopes to announce a venue next week. All of this reflects the major reorganization in Exact's operations that was done during the last year.
