AVALARA ISSUED STOCK IN MATRIX DEAL

Avalara logoAvalara has issued $425,355 in stock that was used in an asset purchase deal, according to a recent SEC filing. SEC filings on the issuance of stock in private companies are thin in detail. However,  CEO Scott McFarlane confirmed this was part of the consideration used in the recent purchase of the UPC Matrix Master database from Tax Matrix by Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based Avalara

SWK BUYS TEXAS SAGE BIZ

 Jeff Roth, SWK TechnologiesSWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J., has acquired the Sage accounts of Dallas-based Point Solutions. This is SWK’s first move into Texas and the company said it has retained “several key personnel.” We can expect more as in a prepared statement, SWK CEO Jeff Roth noted that “Our goal has always been to create a national footprint with regional offices for our Sage ERP practice; this was a logical next step to help us achieve that goal.” I believe SWK is not in the South or the Pacific Northwest, yet.

SUGARCRM NAMES FIELD OPS VP

Glenn Cross, SugarCRM SugarCRM has named Glen Cross as EVP of worldwide field operations. He will direct the source code software company’s sales, services and support organizations. Cross was most recently EVP of worldwide sales and services of Xsigo Systems. He was with that company for two years until its acquisition by Oracle. From 2009 through January 2011, he was SVP of worldwide sales, service and support Meru Networks, which went public in 2010.

SAGE NAMES PRO END DATE

David Dierke, AccountMate Sage has said it will stop selling its Pro accounting application next year. And the only thing we had not known about the demise of Pro is the exact date and that turns out to be March 31, 2014. That marks the end of a product that has been on the market for decades and came to Sage via its purchase of Accpac International in 2003. Accpac got the product with its acquisition for the former SBT Accounting Systems in 2000.

Guy Berruyer, Sage Sage says that its business in North America has continued to improve for the first quarter ended December 31. The statement came in an interim management statement from the Sage. These things are usually very thin on information and this one is no exception and reports no numbers regarding revenue or earnings.

2012: SAP IN EXCELSIS

Bill McDermott, SAPSAP’s message to Oracle during its 2012 earnings webcast was “We will bury you.” OK, so executives did not say that. It was more like “We are burying you” after the third or fourth time that co-CEO Bill McDermott said that the company was outgrowing its largest competitor. And to make sure the message was clear, McDermott said that “Just so there will be no doubt, I am talking about Oracle when I am talking about largest competitor.”

CEO CHARDON TO LEAVE BLACKABAUD

CEO Marc Chardon will leave Blackbaud at the end of 2013 or earlier if the company can find a successor. According to the official statement from the Charleston, S.C.-based nonprofit vendor "Following his departure, Mr. Chardon intends to pursue business interests advising and investing in technology start-ups and devote more time to the philanthropic community." MHANCE OPENS IN INDIA

 Claire Carter, m-HanceM-hance, a Microsoft VAR based in England, has opened an office in Pune, India. The office will operate as a technical development center with the goal of launching more than 20 new products in key vertical markets in 2013. M-hance was formed in 2011 through the amalgamation of several Dynamics resellers in the United Kingdom. The company is not selling products in the United States but has a development office here.

ACUMATICA HIRES ENGINEERING VP

Oleg Shaikhatarov, AcumaticaAcumatica has named Oleg Shaikhatarov as VP of Engineering. The new executive, operating from the company’s development office in Moscow, Russia, reports to Yury Larichev, who recently moved from the COO job to the CEO slot. The company said Shaikhatarov will work with Acumatica founder and chief technology officer Mike Chtchelkonogov.

And major players like Microsoft and Epicor took the opportunity to introduced new products as part of the usual fanfare surrounding this important event.
