CONSOLIDATION GETS NEW LOOK

Andy Vabulas, I.B.I.S.This year there are new twists on M&A as globalization makes a big impact, at least in the Dynamics AX market. That was recently shown by Sonata Software's purchase of Peachtree Corners, Ga.-based I.B.I.S., led by Andy Vabulas. Sonata is based in India. More recently, Ameri Holdings launched a hostile bid for Edgewater Technology and while its operating business, Ameri100, is headquartered in Princeton, N.J., most company executives are of Indian origin.

RANDOM THOUGHTS: ON BREAK

Because of the impact of travel coming back from the magical state of Florida, Random Thoughts is on break this week. That has more to do with the lack of working wi-fi at places than travel. You know Florida; a word from a native language meaning hot and over-priced. Besides paying homage to the mouse takes precedence over normal day-to-day activity and the weather simply saps the heat of unwary northerners. The good thing was the kids on the Disney Express back to Newark were too worn out to be a pain.

SAGE LAUNCHES 100C, 300C

Diane Haines, SageSage has launched its Sage 100c and 300c lines that are designed to transition its customers to the cloud, although it appears more aimed at moving them to subscription pricing.  "We know not everyone is ready to go to the cloud, but some are," says Diane Haines, director of strategic marketing for Sage North America. While there has been some uproar over fees for converting from 100 and 300, Haines says that applies only to those who want to upgrade to the newer products, but has no impact on those who will stay on the 2016 versions of Sage 100 and 300 at the same support levels.

XERO DOUBLES NORTH AMERICAN SUBS

Rod Drury, XeroXero says it had 44,000 subscribers in North America at the end of the half on September 30. The low-cost accounting cloud software company said this week that was an increase in 114 percent over the first half of 2015 in what it terms an off-peak season. Worldwide, Xero had 593,000 subscribers on September 30, a 60-percent increase from the total a year earlier. Most of the total is 425,000 subscribers in Australia and Xero's home country, New Zealand.

DELTEK LAUNCHES VISION 7.5

Namita Dhallan, DeltekDeltek has launched Vision 7.5, the latest edition of its financial application for professional services. The application introduces Asset Manager, a new module that enables users to create, track and manage assets in one place and which integrates with Vision Purchasing and Accounting. It also integrates with Deltek TrafficLive and Deltek Talent Management. Deltek is also providing AP Invoice/Absence Request approvals and task dependency enhancements.

KEYEDIN SOLUTIONS SIGNS ATS

Vivian Keena, Alternative Technology SolutionsKeyedIn Solutions has signed Alternative Technology Solutions as a reseller of its KeyedIn Manufacturing Cloud ERP. In a prepared statement, ATS CEO Vivian Keena, said, "Our partnership with KeyedIn will allow us to provide Cloud-based, configurable ERP built specifically for many of the specialized manufacturing verticals we serve." Probably the most interesting thing, however, is not this deal but the relationships of the parties of the two companies.

BENNETT PORTER DROPS SYSPRO

Sue Bennett, Bennett PorterReseller Bennett Porter is transitioning out of its Syspro business. The Tigard Ore-based company has sold its Syspro practice to Systems Advisory Services effective October 1. It is still supporting four customers that use the manufacturing software application in conjunction with SAS, but only through December.

XERO CREATES CHIEF DATA OFFICER POST

Tony Stewart, XeroXero has named Tony Stewart to the newly created position of chief data officer. The New Zealand-based cloud accounting software company says in this new role Stewart will be responsible for accelerating automation, business systems roll out and big data innovation. The hiring follows last month's phishing episode in which the company said  a small number of users tricked of customers were tricked into disclosing their Xero logons.

Ken Lorenz, AcumaticaKen Lorenz, whose career has spanned a wide-range of mid-market jobs, has taken a position in business development for vertical ISV relationships for Acumatica. Lorenz has had two stints with SAP. He was with that software vendor from July 2003 through April 2009 and spent his first two years and two months with SAP America as a regional channel manager and finished with three years and 11 months as Business development director - global megachannel.

EDGEWATER TO STUDY TAKEOVER OFFER

Jeff Eberwein, Lone Star Value InvestorsEdgewater Technology, which has Oracle and Dynamics AX practices, has retained Signal Hill Capital Group to evaluate a hostile takeover launched by Ameri Holdings. In a prepared statement, Edgewater said this week it is aware of an attempt by stockholder, Lone Star Value Investors, to remove certain company directors. "The Board and Company management value input from all of the Company's stockholders," Edgewater said in a prepared statement. Lone Star, led by activist investor Jeff Eberwein, teamed up with Ameri Holdings recently to launch a proxy solicitation.
