EXACT FOUNDS BIZ NETWORK, BUT NOT HERE

Exact, which markets the Macola, Globe and Synergy software lines, has established the Exact International Business network which it said fosters sharing of business developments among experts and executives of the EMEA and APAC regions. (EMEA is pretty well understood. But let's spell out Asia-Pacific for the other region). The first network event was held at Exact's headquarters in Delft, the Netherlands and was titled "Gateway to International Growth", focusing on growth next year and beyond. More events are planned this year in Paris, London, and Cologne with other locations to be added in its worldwide subsidiary experts. Speakers from the Exact customer base will be invited. I would like to suggest also inviting some outstanding members of the U.S. trade press who could share their observations of the industry and years of wisdom (both of them). I have a modest proposal.

RADIANT SYSTEM PLANS OFFERING

POS specialist Radiant Systems is preparing a public offering of 4,683,848 shares with 3.5 million of those offered by the company. The vendor plans to use net proceeds to pay down the balance on the revolving part of its credit agreement, fund working capital requirements and for general corporate purchases, including possible acquisitions. The company's share price range from $9 per share to $19.32 per share in the 52-week period ended September 3 with the last sale at $19.19 per share that day. At $19.19 each, Radiant's shares would bring in about $63 million. There's no question why the stock is doing well. Read more...

SAGE NAMES GM FOR CONSTRUCTION/REAL ESTATE

In its ongoing Microsoft-Sage employee exchange program, Sage North America has named Jon Witty as VP and GM of its construction and real estate business. His job includes oversight of the Timberline and Master Builder products. The position had been vacant since January when John Geffel, a Timberline veteran and GM for that product, was shown the door (He asked if he could see it in another color). CDC USER LIST FOR SALE? NOT OFFICIALLY

Along with the usual pleas from Nigerian princes and government officers, notification about British lottery winnings and promotion for devices for physical enhancement came an email offer I've never seen before. That was for a list of 34,318 CDC Software users, that included the usual entity and contact information, along with revenue size, number of employees and industry code. Given the wording, I don't think this was completely authorized. In the precise words written by a lady with a Slavic name, "These email addresses are purely persmission based and inclined with CAN SPAM ACT." OK. I immediately forwarded it to CDC Software. DELTEK EXEC PAY DOWN SHARPLY

Kevin ParkerWith no bonuses for the last two years and equity awards slashed, compensation for three top executives at Deltek dropped sharply for 2009. That's shown in the proxy filed recently with the SEC. Deltek CEO Kevin Parker had $1.58 million in total compensation, a drop of 31.6 percent from $2.3 million in 2008. The big change came in equity awards with Parker earning $588,000 from that source last year, compared to $1.42 million the year before, a decline of 58.6 percent.

CONNECTWISE GOES ANDROID

ConnectWise, which markets systems for IT service providers, resellers and managed service providers, has released the Android edition of ConnectWise Mobile. The company already had versions for the iPhone and Windows Mobile Phones. The mobile apps enable IT service providers to work when they are not connected to the Internet or are out of a carrier's coverage area. The module initiates a transfer once the user returns to a coverage area. The system lets users work on most of the same tasks that would be performed on office computers, including working on timesheets, work schedules, contracts, service tickets and configurations. I suppose the latter is one of those obvious points that gets put in press releases.

BUSINESS GOES APPLE?

Forget for a moment the channel wars of the midmarket and cast your eyes to the world of public accounting. That came to mind after last issue’s analysis of SAP and Sybase plotting to establish a worldwide mobile platform, an open platform. Because in the run up to the annual Midwest Accounting and Financial Showcase, sponsored by the Illinois Society of CPAs, it quickly became apparent that the tax and accounting market is rushing rapidly towards mobile. HIGHTOWER SIGNS WITH SYSPRO

Jeff RosengardenHightower, a Chicago-area reseller that is one of Sage's larger resellers, has added Syspro's software to a mix that has previously been largely Sage. The Syspro line was added because of its well-known strength in manufacturing. CEO Jeff Rosegarden also likes the attention he got from Syspro. "Syspro is like the State of the Art of old. It’s 250 people who care about you," he says. He notes that Syspro trained his staff; something he said had never happened at SOTA or its successor, Sage, and that Syspro was involved in every deal.

COLUMBUS IT TURNS IN STRONG HALF

Columbus IT, the Dynamics reseller based in Denmark,  turned in a strong first half in the Americas as software and maintenance boomed and even though consulting revenue showed far less growth the result was a 17-percent hike in revenue for the half ended June 30. EBITDA for this hemisphere was $2.7 million for the six months, up 21.1 percent (when measured in Danish kroner), over a year ago. Revenue was $9.9 million. Read more...

TRIBRIDGE NAMES CFO

Chris JosephTribridge, Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner of the Year, says it is polishing its operations to continue growth with the appointment of Chris Joseph as CFO. Joseph was CEO of Mercatus, which provided technology services to healthcare providers, and joined Tribridge when it purchased his company in May. Besides doing the usual CFO things, his duties were described as including the support of "the company’s ongoing acquisition strategy."
