Terry Petrzelka, who founded international Dynamics reseller Tectura, is retiring from the company he founded in 2001. Petrzelka will remain with the company during the next three months with his day-to-day responsibilities being assumed by Duane Bell, the COO, who becomes CEO and president.

Sage North America has taken its Sage Pro and PFW accounting software products out of the "Value" organization they were placed in two years ago and placed them in the Mid-Market Enterprise Division under VP Laurie Schultz. The announcement talked about aligning internal resources, providing more product choices and giving resellers a chance to grow their business.

The title here is not quite modest, but with Sage's new chief executive taking over, I started thinking of what I would do in his position. And it's something that Guy Berruyer hasn't done and maybe it's just the Sage culture. But since Sage relies on its channel, I would have immediately sent out a note to resellers telling them how much I valued them and would do everything in my power to ensure their success because Sage's success depends on them.

Microsoft has issued its security survey for the first half of the year and, as usual, theft of equipment is the single largest threat to data, at 30.5 percent. There's no breakdown on the following, but I'd like to see the percentage stemming from laptops stolen from vehicles. The more feared malware – spam, spyware, viruses and the like – were well down the list.

Out to steal market share from Salesforce.com, Microsoft is offering a blue-light special on monthly subscriptions to Dynamics CRM. The pricing, announced by Kirill Tatarinov, head of Microsoft Business Solutions, in a speech at Convergence Europe, is $34 per user, per month, for the first 12 months of service.

Sage Payment Solutions has signed an agreement with Ingenico, which markets credit card terminals, to develop an integrated payment offering for SMBs. Utilizing Sage Exchange, Sage customers can use Ingenico terminals to process payments. The devices are being tested by Sage customers and are expected to be available later this year.

Unit 4, which owns the Agresso and Coda Financial lines, isn't a well-known name in the United States, but it is making a push here, although not through resellers. But let's hope for the industry's sake that more familiar vendors do as well as Unit 4 ended its third quarter on September 30 with revenue of about $139 million, an increase of more than 10 percent (as calculated in euros) from last year's corresponding period.

When a company is healthy, like Deltek, and is searching for refinancing, I take that as an optimistic sign. In this case, the Reston, Va.-based software vendor proposes to refinance its credit agreement which is comprised by a $151.9 million term loan maturing in April 2011 and April 2013 and a revolving credit facility of $22.5 million that expires in April 2013.

Epicor is moving along with mobile path with Epicor Mobile Sales Assistant as the latest in its mobile product line. The application provides sales and fulfillment workflow processes and integrates with Epicor's financial applications. The package runs its own SQL Server Compact database and can operate offline and standalone mode after being synchronized with Mobile Server. It synchronizes immediately with the financial packages once a connection is established.
