SAGE ROLLING OUT COMMON PAYROLL

Sage logoHaving modules that can fit into its different accounting software lines has been something Sage has talked about a long time. That plan is now gaining speed with the rollout of Common Payroll, an Accpac module that will be released this month for Abra SQL, MAS 500 and X3 and in November for MAS 200 SQL.

MICROSOFT: VAR PROGRAM ON SCHEDULE

dynamics logoSince I don’t hear the screams of the wounded and dying in the Dynamics VAR community, I have been wondering about the status of the Microsoft partner program that was to go into effect this month.  I thought perhaps enough loopholes were set up to let small dealers find shelter under larger resellers that it may not have made a huge difference in trimming the channel. INTUIT SUFFERS CREDIT CARD OUTAGE

At first, I was prepared to call the two-hour outage of some of Intuit's credit-card processing services this week minor. But with several vendors introducing payment systems this month, the question becomes, "What is acceptable downtime when it comes to credit cards?" Read more...

NEW NAMES ON EPICOR'S VAR LIST

epicorEpicor doesn't tend to announce the names of resellers that have agreed to carry its products, so it's necessary to visit the "Find a Partner" part of its Web site periodically. And there has been some expansion of the channel since Epicor 9 hit the market.  Among the companies listed are CompuData, a Philadelphia-based VAR that has been primarily a Sage vendor and Clients First Business Solutions, which is based in Holmdel, N.J. SAAS-SWITCHING BATTLE BREWING?

In theory, Internet-based products were supposed to make product switching harder. After all, the data was sitting at some vendor's site.  But Doug Johnson, VP of marketing for Acumatica thinks he sees a battle brewing as companies using SaaS products switch to other SaaS products. Read more...

OMNIVUE GETS NEW EXECS

Bruce Kopkin, OmnivueOmniVue Business Solutions, an Atlanta-based Dynamics reseller, has had some executive movement lately. That includes Kevin Armstrong, the director of sales, who joined ePartners in September as VP of sales. Armstrong’s place was taken by Bruce Kopkin, who was previously global VP of sales and marketing at Transfort, which makes many migration tools. OmniVue has also made Dipti Steele VP of operations and Stuart Wingate VP of marketing.  Steele’s background includes a director-level IT job at Home Depot. Wingate spent two years as marketing VP at OfficeArrow, a social media start up. Read more...

SAGE VERSUS NETSUITE

There are few signs for validating that a company is a true threat than discussing how to deal with it. That's that unspoken message of a slated episode of Sage's Competitive Webcast. Scheduled for November 17 is "How to Compete  Effectively Against NetSuite." Now, granted there ought to be a battle plan for all competitors, but to even make the list is a signal. Read more...

RESELLERS AND OFFICE—GOING WHERE?

The recent press release from Microsoft about its Office 365, which is entering a world-wide beta, ought to be getting some attention from Dynamics resellers. Office 365 is something of a kitchen-sink approach to the cloud with plans that later this year "Office 365 will expand to include Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online to provide Microsoft’s complete business productivity experience to organizations of all types and sizes." FACEBOOK AS JOB BOARD?

Mint.com runs a little looser than many operations. The Intuit subsidiary is actively loading its Facebook page with very cleverly worded descriptions of job openings. Here is the recent posting for an opening for senior quality assurance/test automation engineer. "Tired of waiting for our mobile app updates? Know how to write automation scripts and file bugs? We're looking for (more like: HELP WE NEED SOMEONE!!!) another mobile QA engineer...come join us." Read more...

THE QUIET BBD VAR ENLISTMENT

So who is going to be reselling SAP's much-touted BusinessByDesign? After Arxis Technology announced it was on board, I thought there might be some announcements from other prominent resellers.  SAP historically has issued press releases when groups of resellers sign up. So what's going on? Arxis broke its news the second week in August, but had signed the papers with SAP a few weeks before. Read more...
