It comes with a set of knives and a lifetime supply of plastic wrap. ...  After two weeks away from ice skating, I was back for a lesson with my teacher. “It’s like I haven’t left,” I told him. ”The things I couldn’t do two weeks ago, I still can’t do.” Later, I was on a bench at the rink tinkering with my right skate, which was having a problem. “What’s the matter?” a guy next to me said. “I’ve got a screw loose.” “Yeah, but what’s wrong with the skate?” But my skating continues to improve. Just the other day, someone yelled, “What a Lutz!” or something like that.

ASG TOPS SAGE CHANNEL

Alliance Solutions GroupAlliance Solutions Group, a construction software reseller, was named Sage Business Partner of the Year for Top Revenue for North America for 2014. ASG gets the trophy for having the highest product revenue across all Sage lines. Headed by managing partner, Mike Griffith, the company, based in Brandon, Fla., has offices in Florida, California and Texas. The other two top partners for revenue were Morristown, N.J.-based Accordant and Laguna Hills, Calif.-based Blytheco. Accordant is also a construction software specialist and Blytheco was recognized this year for both new license and cross-selling sales for Sage 100, 300 and 500 and for new license sales of Sage Fixed Assets.

COLUMBUS U.S. RESULTS PLUNGE

Thomas Honoré, ColumbusFinancial results for consulting and reselling firm Columbus plunged in the United States for the first half ended June 30. EBITDA for this country dropped by 83.6 percent to about $173,000 while revenue fell 24.7 percent to around $13.7 million. Combined with the U.S. results, a drop in sales in third-party software sales, the impact of currency drove revenue for the most recently half down 3.7 percent to about $78.4 million. Copenhagen, Denmark-based Columbus is executing a strategy of reducing its reliance on third-party products, such as Microsoft, and selling its own products.

SALES SURGE AT SWK TECHNOLOGIES

 SWK  TechnologiesSilverSun Technologies, parent to Sage reseller SWK Technologies, saw a 3.7-percent dip in revenue for the second quarter ended June 30. But the Livingston, N.J.-based VAR, which represents all of SilverSun’s operations turned in a 35.7-percent increase in revenue. Net income was $59,890 in the most recently ended period, down from $62,185 a year earlier. Revenue hit $5.3 million, compared to $3.9 million in last year’s corresponding period. The company said software and consulting revenue increase primarily because of implementations of Sage X3.

SALESLOGIX BEING SOLD TO INFOR

John Oechsle, SwiftpageSaleslogix's most recent owner, Swiftpage, is selling the product line to Infor. Swiftpage will concentrate on Act, purchased from Sage along with Saleslogix, in February 2013. Infor will launch industry-specific products as it backs away from Inforce CRM. In a prepared statement, Swiftpage, H. John Oechsle, said that “We can now fully focus on our core ‘DNA’ of helping micro and small businesses grow.” Sounds like a good move; SalesLogix and Act fit very differently in the market and I’ve been told on my than one occasion by Sage resellers that SalesLogix is  more high end than you’d think.

RECKON ONE GOING TO THE U.K.

 Clive Rabie, ReckonReckon, an Australia company that markets low-end accounting software, is developing a version of its cloud-based Reckon One for the United Kingdom. That was outlined in the company’s report of results for the first half ended June 30. “Investment in developing and establishing an infrastructure for a UK product has commenced,” the report said. It raises the specter of Reckon One, which competes with MYOB and Xero in its homeland, of going up against Xero and Sage One in the British Commonwealth motherland. Meanwhile, Intuit, whose products were formerly distributed down under by Reckon, will be entering Australia next year and Sage is expected to join the fight in the Outback Corral.

AVALARA MARKETING CENTER OPENS

Liz Anderson, AvalaraAvalara has started the Avalara Marketing Center, which the sales tax software vendor says is designed to help its resellers generate leads. The center provides content that dealers can use in marketing communications and is designed for channel members who do not have time or resources to handle their own campaigns.

EPICOR INCHES ALONG IN Q3

Joseph Cowan, EpicorEpicor Software cut significantly into its loss for the third quarter ended June 30. The red ink dropped to $3.3 million for the most recently ended period from $9.7 million a year ago. But the top line budged upward by only 2.1 percent, rising to $246.2 million, up from $241.2 million a year earlier. Don’t blame ERP, which performed decently with revenue of $155.8 million, a rise of 4.3 percent from $149.4 million in last year’s corresponding period. Once again, the Retail Solutions division sucked the life out of the quarter, dropping 10.6 percent to just under $33 million from $36.9 million.

EPICOR ADDS ATS EXECS TO SUIT

Vivian Keena, Alternative Technology SolutionsEpicor Software has won a motion to name four employees of Alternative Technology Solutions as defendants in a suit over copyright and intellectual property infringement. The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California approved adding were Vivian Keena, CEO and Co-owner, and Donna Barnett, CTO and Co-owner, and employees, Ned Cleary and Mark Stuvetraa, as individual defendants. Epicor is seeking actual and punitive damages from Alternative. Based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., ATS is a consulting firm that specializes in serving Epicor customers and most of its management worked at Epicor.
