ASIA PACIFIC DAMPENS SAP RESULTS

Management changes in the Asia Pacific region tripped up SAP for the first quarter ended March 31. But the giant software company still saw a double-digit increase in net income and what was described as its best first-quarter ever.. After-tax profit rose to about $706 million, a 17-percent increase over last year’s corresponding period. Revenue rose to roughly $4.7 billion, a 7-pecent rise. There were three management changes in Asian countries coupled with a slowdown in purchases in China. However, Co-CEO Bill McDermott said the company had confidence in the top management in the region.

T&E specialist Concur has opened an app center that lets its developer partners post information about the products. The company announced the center this week, listing 34 applications that include everything from software that helps claim VAT refunds to one called TaxiMagic that lets passengers book, track, pay and expense rides straight from their smartphone. This is not a store that provides downloadable software. Instead, users can link to partner websites to learn more about the products.

DYNAMICS REVENUE UP 13 PERCENT IN Q3

Microsoft has reported that Dynamics revenue for the third quarter ended March 31 was up 13 percent over the prior year. On that note, we have almost exhausted the information the company provided in its 10-Q and none of the discussion in this week's webcast touched upon that business. Dynamics is part of the Microsoft Business Division, which exists only for reporting purposes. That fictional unit had a revenue increase of 8 percent for the period just ended.

Sage 50, the former Peachtree, is getting more updates as the company breaks with its past once-a year release. The roll out of the new product, technically Sage 50 Accounting 2014-U.S., was in April as opposed to the usual May and also seems to show the commitment of software manufacturers to names that won’t fit in headlines. Sage is moving toward quarterly updates. The company also renamed its business intelligence offering as Sage Business Reporting, which is an Excel-based.

Microsoft used its third-quarter earnings webcast to broadly outline its plans to develop mobile and touch devices that utilize Windows 8. And in general, it spent a lot of time talking about rolling out technology in areas in which it is playing catch up. “With Windows 8. we are setting an accelerated pace for updates and innovation,” said CFO Peter Klein, who announced he will be retiring to spend more time with his family when the fiscal year ends in June.

Pronto Software has changed its operations in North American and begun growing its staff. The effort had been led by Terry Leister, who was VP of Pronto's North American effort from January 2006. Leister says that last year he started Pronto Software, based in Irving, Texas, and the operation began hiring staff in December. His position was taken over in January by Rob Kirkey, who as general manager for Express Information Systems from April 2010 through June 2011.

. Microsoft had been selling and supporting the product, which was authored by the reseller, for 12 years. With the transfer, Professional Advantage, an Australian company with its U.S. operations based in Fargo, N.D., is releasing a new edition of Collections Management. Customers have a one-time opportunity to retain full rights to the produce which was granted under their Module Based Licensing or Business Ready Licensing packages.

In its bid to have a contract with every company on the planet, Avalara has signed agreements with Upshot Commerce and Kalio. Well, it only seems that way sometimes as Avalara piles on the agreements. But the latest two relationships add to a rapidly growing list of allies for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based sales-and-use tax company.
ATS DENIES EPICOR SUIT CLAIMS

Alternative Technology Solutions has rejected claims by Epicor Software that it engaged in infringement of Epicor's copyright and intellectual property. Based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., ATS is a consulting firm that specializes in serving Epicor customers and most of its management worked at Epicor. In a prepared statement, ATS president and Vivian Keena rejected claims made by Epicor in infringement suit against her company and said that its business actually helps Epicor and its customers.
NEXTEC GETS GLOBAL X3 AWARD

No wonder Eric Frank, one of the owners of the NexTec Group sounded happy when asked how X3 was doing. The Seattle, Wash.-based reselling company got the Sage ERP X3 award for growth acceleration. X3 awards were handed out this week in a global X3 conference in Germany. With $14.14 million in annual revenue, NexTec moved a couple of spots in this year's Top 100 VAR selection. Frank's group splits its efforts between Sage and Microsoft. Besides X3, it offers Sage 500.
