VAR STAR APPLICATIONS OPEN

VAR StarsIt's that time of year again. Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Bob Scott's VAR Stars. One hundred resellers will be selected and flown to, oh, wrong promo. The one hundred lucky winners will be named in an upcoming special report from Bob Scott's Insights and the Progressive Accountant. For this selection, revenue is not a factor (as opposed to the Top 100 VARs when it was). We are picking VARs of quality, big and small. MIGHTYCALL OFFERS COMMISSIONS

Stijn Hendrikse, MightyCallMightyCall, a sister company to Acumatica, is offering resellers 20-percent commissions on customers referred to the company. MightyCall markets contact center products designed to ensure telephone calls are answered, says marketing officer and managing director Stijn Hendrikse. Hendrikse, who moved to MightyCall from Acumatica in May, says the software routes calls to devices the user selects. It also presents a business number to those receiving voice or text message so the customer does not see an employee’s personal number.

SAGE BACK IN PAYROLL WITH PAYCHOICE

Connie Certusi, SageSage is buying Mount Laurel, N.J.-based Paychoice in what will turn into a multi-pronged return to the payroll business. Paychoice’s payroll products will be integrated with the major financial software lines. And Sage will also utilize Paychoice’s licensee program to encourage accountants to deliver payroll services via the platform, says Connie Certusi, EVP of Sage’s Small Business Division. Sage is paying $157 million in cash to buy Paychoice, which also has human resource applications. It marks a return to payroll for Sage, which sold its prior business in this arena to a company then known as CompuPay several years ago.

NETSUITE ADDS THREE RESELLERS

Paul Buck, Elegant Cloud SolutionsNetSuite has added three resellers to its channel, the company said this week. The most interesting of the three is Alternative Technology Solutions, which has been sued by Epicor.  ATS, based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., has offices in Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Indianapolis and Mexico. It serves manufacturers and distributors. The others are Elegant Cloud Solutions and Maximum Computer Systems.

ABILA NAMES POTTS SALES SVP

Randy Potts, AbilaNonprofit vendor Abila has named Randy Potts as SVP of sales. Immediately before joining the Austin, Texas-based software publisher, Potts served as SVP of sales  at LogicMonitor from December 2012 through July 2014. He was chief sales officer for Spredfast from August 2011 through September 2012 and VP of sales at Convio from September 2003 through June 2011. Convio was acquired by nonprofit software publisher Blackbaud in 2012. In the last few months, Abila lost VP of sales Chris Wicker, who held that job from August 2013 through May 2014. He became chief revenue officer at TalentGuard in June.

BLYTHECO NAMES CANNADY CRM VP

Mitchell Cannady, BlythecoBlytheco has named Mitchell Cannady former CEO of Spinnaker Network Solutions, as VP of its CRM practice. The Laguna Hills, Calif.-based reseller said Cannady’s job includes managing the CRM business and setting strategy for its growth. A CRM veteran, Cannady founded CRM reseller Spinnaker in 1997 and in 2011 that business was acquired by Tribridge.

EXACT ENHANCES ONLINE APP

exactExact has released upgraded capabilities of its Exact Online for wholesalers and distributors. The new product, Wholesale Distribution Advanced, adds multi-warehouse capabilities, serial/batch tracking and the ability to perform deeper analyses of business data, especially sales performance. The software is available online for a $299 monthly subscription. Multi-warehouse capabilities include enabling customers to manage multiple shipping locations and geographically dispersed inventories from a single screen, while data is updated and reconciled in real-time.

Jered Cady, Synergy Business SolutionsSynergy Business Solutions, a Dynamics SL and Intacct reseller, has hired John Foster as VP of sales and marketing. Foster’s arrival is in preparation for the retirement of Jered Cady, Synergy EVP and principal. Foster has decades of experience at some well known reselling organizations. He was president of Xenex Seattle from August 1986 through December 2006 and then VP and partner at Forepoint, which acquired the Xenex operation, from January 2007 through November 2010.

STAMBAUGH NESS BUYS ACUITY

June Jewell , Acuity Business SolutionsYork, Pa.-based Stambaugh Ness Business Solutions has acquired Acuity Business Solutions of Reston, Va.  Acuity will become a division of SNBS. Both firms are Deltek resellers. Acuity founder June Jewell will remain as a strategic advisor. The combined firm has staff in nine states and assumes Acuity’s position as a Deltek Premier Partner. When it was selected as a VAR Star for 2013, Acuity reported $4.1 million in annual revenue and a staff of 12. It had 13 as a part of the purchase and the combined operation with Acuity as a division employs 24.

INFOR REVS UP DOUBLE DIGITS

Nicole Anasenes, InforInfor posted net income for the second straight quarter the software giant said this week. It will need that kind of sustained performance to go public. And the company had a 22-percent rise in product income for the first quarter ended July 31, compared to a 2-percent hike in product updates and support fee revenue for the same period. How many financial product publishers see their product revenue growth exceed maintenance?
