InterDyn Socius has acquired the Dynamics business from CBiz, the accounting, financial planning, and tax company that is getting out of the technology market. But what the Socius press release did not say was that it's also picking up the Syspro practice from Cleveland-based CBiz. Socius CEO Jeff Geisler said there are clients and demand for Sysopro in the Kansas City area. The company will also evaluate whether Syspro should be offered at its other offices.

SAGE NABS ODD INSIGHTS SPONSOR

Sage North America paid homage to co-opetition this year with its ability to snag a very interesting Platinum Sponsor for May’s Insights reseller conference. Top dog on the sponsor list is Microsoft SQL Server. Since SQL Server is a dominant package, the move hardly gives Microsoft an entree into the Sage channel it didn't already have. And I think that enterprising VARs could refute those who attack Sage for aging technology. "If Microsoft thought it was important to sponsor the conference, the company can't that badly of Sage's products." I'm sure something slicker could be put together with more time.

NetSuite is known for its aggressive marketing, which I once termed the whack-a-mole approach, and for deals to get end users to switch to its products. But this week Microsoft took a leaf from the SaaS vendor's marketing book and is offering $850 per user to customers who would like to back away from NetSuite.

EUROPEAN DYNAMICS VAR TALKS TO LENDER

In press releases, less often than in financial reports, it's good to read the bottom line. And in a press release about the preliminary results for Qurius, a European Dynamics reseller, was the following that had escaped my glance: "The strong cash position enabled Qurius to meet its debt service obligations for the full year by the end of 2009. Qurius expects to be able to solve the effects of the disappointing fourth quarter performance on the covenants, in a constructive dialogue with its lender."

- Thursday, 04 March 2010
- News and Analysis

Results for Dynamics reseller Fullscope weren't included in the 2009 results for its new parent, Edgewater Technology since its acquisition was effective after the year closed. But I'm sure Edgewater can't get those numbers of the books quick enough as the company’s revenue dropped by 32.1 percent for the year ended December 31. Revenue for 2009 was $50.1 million, down from $73.7 million the prior year.
