BizNet Software, which makes business intelligence applications, is holding its first Annual Excel User Conference - Excelapalooza. Gosh, if it could get even 1 percent of all Excel users. Well, maybe that isn't the idea. But the company made it interesting in getting the grandfather of the computer spreadsheet business, Dan Bricklin, as its keynote speaker.

SaaS and subscription revenue grew by 20.1 per cent for Unit4, the company that markets the Agresso and Coda lines, for the half ended June 30. That outstripped the 4 percent increase in total revenue for the Netherlands-based company. But results in North America outpaced those figures, increasing by 25 percent over last year's corresponding period.

Aim Solutions, a Dallas, Texas-based reseller, has been named the Acumatica Partner of the Year. The award was made this week at Acumatica's reseller conference. Aim is owned by Ava Idom. Her firm also sells Dynamics GP, SL and CRM and in the days before Great Plains purchased Solomon was a frequent Solomon award winner.

The acquisition of First Tech Direct gave Columbus, the Copenhagen-based Dynamics reseller, a significant lift to the results of its North America operations for the first half ended June 30. North American EBITDA reached about $1.5 million, up 252 percent from the first half of 2011.

Pascal Houillon, CEO of Sage North America, described the course he took in the last year as tough love. But tough or not, most resellers attending the Sage Summit conference this week were from Missouri—no matter how good the plan outlined by Houillon sounded, the primary sentiment was "Show me."

CDC Software and Consona, which provide specialized financial software, have merged to form Aptean. The deal brings together some well-known products, CDC's Ross ERP and Consona's Made2Manage. Officially, Aptean has more than 9,000 customers and 1,500 employees. CDC also brought its Pivotal CRM and Consona its Compiere open source ERP to the wedding.

Third-party software vendors went away from Sage Summit with at least the feeling that they were let in on more information than in the past. But while they welcome the promise of the ability to simplify the effort needed to integrate with multiple Sage products, they are not all sure it will work as planned or that development can take place as quickly as hoped.
