SAP's operating profit moved up by 10 percent while IFRS revenue was up by 4 percent at constant currencies, according to preliminary financial results for the year ended December 31. That came as the year ended on a 2-percent rise software revenue for the fourth quarter, while operating profit for that period increased by 13 percent. We'll get the official explanation later as SAP does not hold its earnings call for the initial release of results.

Dynamics Master VAR Socius has made The Northlake Partners a sales affiliate. The Dublin, Ohio-based reseller says the acceptance of Northlake brings the number of organizations in its program to 19. Bothell, Wash.-based Northlake, led by managing partners, Tom Williams and Adam Herman, was founded in 2008.
BTERRELL NAMES KARNES AS PRESIDENT

Keith Karnes has been named president of the BTerrell Group, a Dallas-based accounting software reseller, and of CodePartners, its development arm. Karnes joined the company in April 2013 as director of Intacct Client Solutions. Before joining his current company, Karnes was president of Tenetus, a Dallas-based Intacct VAR, from September 2010 through February 2013.

Microsoft has acquired Parature, a cloud company whose products offer customer self-service capabilities for use by midsize and enterprise organizations. Terms were not disclosed. Microsoft described Parature products as being complementary to Dynamics CRM. The flagship product in the deal, Parature Customer Service Software, integrates a customer portal, self-service knowledgebase, a help desk ticketing application, and a variety of business modules into a central, customizable, web-based system.
NISENBOUM JOINS E2B AS SALES VP

Frank Nisenboum, who had a 22-year career with the VAR now called Socius, has joined e2b Teknologies. Nisenboum joined Chardon, Ohio-based e2b as EVP of sales this month after leaving his long-time employer in December. Nisenboum joined the predecessor to Socius, Brunswick Integrated Computer Systems, in 1991 after working in public accounting.
ARMANINO BUYS ROSE BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

Accounting firm Armanino has purchased Rose Business Solutions, a long-time Dynamics GP reseller. Owner Linda Rose sold the San Diego, Calif.-based operation to concentrate on RoseASP, which provides hosted cloud applications to Dynamics resellers and their customers. The terms were not disclosed. In explaining her decision, Rose said in a prepared statement, "My passion for the past several years has been building cloud brands and delivering cloud solutions through RoseASP."

A Christmas open house during the recent holidays brought home the social media divide among adults. I was pondering the fact that in the last two months I hit 400 Facebook Friends, about 1,024 Twitter followers (it tends to fluctuate a bit) and 1,040 LinkedIn connections. But at the get together, I was confronted by several adults in their 50s and 60s who had no clue about how to get value from social media – and most of whom were IT professionals.

The message was not made in its statement about acquisition of the Tectura's North American business. But UCX Ltd. said in its 2013 annual report that market was one of its prime areas. "High market growth of Microsoft Dynamics AX in the North American and US market presents an opportunity for increased growth within a sector in which we have strong Global leadership," managing director Cris Nicolli wrote in the document on August 22.

Infor has started a micro-vertical product program for partners based on the Infor Mongoose development framework. Partners can build industry-specific applications with the Mongoose platform enabling them to more easily design and deploy applications without knowledge of complex source code or programming languages. After presenting an application idea to Infor, partners have the opportunity to build and promote the envisioned product with the help of Infor's technical staff and global sales organization.

Avalara is increasing the commission its channel members can earn on business referred to the sales-and-use tax company. The company is keeping the rewards front-reward based on input from the channel. "The overwhelming feedback from our partners was that they wanted more upfront, and cared much less about recurring amounts which were too small and too far out in the future," says Pascal Van Dooren, EVP of marketing and sales for the Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based company.
