EPICOR TO EJECT RETAIL GROUP

Epicor Software has outlined plans to spin off its Retail Solutions business into a separate company. Noel Goggin, Epicor Retail Solutions The unit will be temporarily known as SpinCo until the transaction is complete. Retail Solutions had $36.8 million in revenue for the second quarter ended March 31, an increase of 14.3 percent from $32.2 million in last year's corresponding period. For the quarter, Retail Solutions had the best revenue performance of Epicor's three business units. The new company will be headed by Noel Goggin, who is currently EVP and general manager of the group.

MACOLA HIRES CHANNEL HEAD

Gayle Prokop, Exact Macola Exact Macola has hired Gayle Prokop as director of alliances and channel development. Prokop is responsible for the company's Unity Partner Program, which was launched in January. For Macola, this is a big deal as the program was stagnant for the last several years before the prior management was run out of town. Prokop was previously VCE national business leader of Cisco Solutions Group for Avnet Technology Solutions from July 2011.

PRICE, SUPPORT DRIVES SAGE U.S.

Stephen Kelley, SageSage's operations in the United States performed well in the half ended March 31. But the organic revenue growth in this country was driven largely by price increases and upgrading customers to higher-level support plans. In this week's earnings webcast, CFO Stephen Hare noted that in the U.S., "SMB growth is too reliant on price and upsell." Organic growth was 4 percent here but X3 revenue in the U.S. rose by more than 30 percent. Overall, after-tax profit dropped by 8.6 percent to about $210 million.

NETSUITE HITS VERTICALS

Craig West, NetSuite NetSuite has launched a program to support those resellers who want to move into microvertical markets. Called the Vertical Velocity Program, it provides sales and marketing collateral and leads in the space VARs have chosen.

FINANCIALFORCE EYING CHANNEL

Johnny Ola, FinancialForce.comSometimes I think the companies with channels don't want them and the ones that don't have them, want them. FinancialForce.com is making noises about a reseller channel. A spokesperson agreed that the phrase "Planning to recruit" is the best way to state this. She continued that the company, whose ERP product is built on the Salesforce platform, is "building new programs to expand our partnerships and alliances. We have quite a few implementation and consulting partners."

SAGE ONE RELAUNCHED IN U.S.

 Connie Certusi, SageInteresting to hear Sage execs state in this week's first half earnings webcast that Sage One has been relaunched in the United States. Apparently, Sage apparently has decided not to do any more in telling the press about it than in the initial launch. CEO Steve Kelley pointed to the introduction of eight significant features in the online, low-cost accounting system, followed by 33 in the second quarter. His assessment? "We are not on a par with the best-in-class in the market place."

BLACKBAUD NAMES UNIT CHIEF

Brian Boruff, Blackbaud Blackbaud has hired Brian Boruff as president of its enterprise customer business unit. He takes over from EVP Charlie Cumbaa, who was interim ECBU president of while a replacement was sought for Joe Moye, who resigned in March. Moye is now president of Americas Software for Virtustream. Boruff worked most recently at InfoSys where he was a VP from June 2013 through this month. Before that, he was a managing director at Accenture from May 2011 through June 2013.

SUITEWORLD: SLIGHT VAR NEWS

NetSuiteNetSuite did not reveal any major reseller signings at this week's SuiteWorld conference. It did announce that Montreal, Quebec-based Big Bang ERP has joined the reseller problem. But with all due respect to those folks, we had been looking more for big-name Microsoft VARs to move to the cloud product. That did not happen and despite NetSuite's keeping the channel under wraps because it had prospects there, I did not run into anyone that I knew who was not already in the program.

COLUMBUS NAMES U.S. HEAD

Keld Jersild Olsen, Columbus Dynamics reseller Columbus has named Keld Jersild Olsen as managing director of the Danish company's operations in the United States. Columbus, which recently purchased Interdyn BMI, also named Thomas Hauge as COO. Olsen was previously SVP of Columbus' worldwide services, which employees 900 consultants. In 2014, the U,S. operations dropped, but with two months of BMI's numbers included in results for the first quarter ended March 31, the U.S. business turned around.

SWK'S PRODUCT REVENUE BOOMS

SWKResults for SilverSun Technologies, parent of Sage reseller SWK Technologies, were strong for the first quarter ended March 31. Net income reached $521,165 for the most recently ended period, most than four times the $120,741 the prior year. Revenue grew to $6.5 million, an increase of 31.6 percent from $4.9 million last year's corresponding period. A big portion of the revenue growth was $1.4 million in software revenue, up 126.7 percent from almost $610,00 a year earlier. SWK comprises all of SilverSun's operation. However, the parent of the Livingston, N.J.-based VAR did not single out performance of a specific product.
