SAGE LISTS GLOBAL PRODUCTS

Steve Kelly, Sage Sage is putting its faith its global products: Sage One, Life and X3. You may remember a few years ago, the anointed products were SageCRM, Sage 300 and X3. The success of the new troika in attracting new customers was named as one of the company's KPIs at the recent Capital Markets Day. At the event, CEO Steve Kelly said the company "lives and dies" with small and medium businesses. He also promised Sage will not force migration, although is working to trim it s portfolio.

VACIN EXITS XERO FOR START UP

Ian Vacin, Balanced LabsIan Vacin, a key member of the team on this continent, has left Xero for a start up called Balanced Labs, which has offices in San Francisco, Calif.. and Sydney, Australia. Vacin was VP of marketing and product from April 2012 until his recent departure. Rod Drury, CEO of New Zealand-based Xero, said, "Ian's working for a Xero add-on start up so still in the ecosystem. He made a fantastic contribution and we wish him well." Balanced Lab founders, CEO Stuart McLeod, and CTO John Freeman, founded PayCycle Australia, purchased by Xero in 2011.

EXACT MOVES IN ON ACCOUNTANTS

David Lechleitner, ExactLong active with accountants in its home country of the Netherlands, Exact is building applications for firms in the United States. First out this summer is Exact Online Accountant, whose relationship to Exact Online is similar to the way QuickBooks lets accountants see into their clients' files and collaborate with them. Accountants will also be able to earn certification in Exact Online, says David Lechleitner, a product marketing principal for the software company.

UXC ECLIPSE RETAIL BOOMS

Cris Nicolli, UXC EclipseUXC Eclipse is having great success in its global retail push, the company said this month. Cris Nicolli, managing director of the parent UXC Ltd., said the company had received more than $20 million Australian (about $15.5 million U.S.) in the retail market in North America and Australia. The exec said the effort began 24 months ago with support from Microsoft. UXC Eclipse ranked No. 5 on the Bob Scott's Insights Top 100 VARs for 2015 with $125 million in revenue.

NEXTEC TAKES ON ACUMATICA

Eric Frank, NexTecThe NexTec Group has picked up the Acumatica line. It's a good win for Acumatica. Seattle, Wash.-based NexTec is No. 30 on the Bob Scott's Insights Top 100 VARs for 2015 with $19.48 million in annual revenue. It was great timing that the press release on this broke the same day Nextec announced that it was honored for 2015 Best Business Partner for Migration for Sage X3 at the worldwide sales conference for that product in Istanbul, Turkey.

SILVERSUN DEBUTS NEW WEBSITE

Mark Meller, SilverSun TechnologiesSilverSun Technologies, parent to Sage reseller, SWK Technologies, has established a new website. It's much more interesting graphically than the old one, which was pretty staid. And it spells out many of the strategic points made by CEO Mark Meller in a recent investor presentation. For the mid-market channel and their supplies, the meat is in the section called "Business Focus" The first headline proclaims the company among the largest Sage X3 resellers in the country but also notes SilverSun is proud to handle Acumatica and NetSuite, suggesting it has had time to get comfortable with the two cloud applications.

X3 SALES VP ARMSTRONG OUT

Donna Armstrong, SageDonna Armstrong, who has served as sales VP for the Sage X3 line, is leaving the company. Sage announced her departure this week following its earlier statement that the letters ERP would be dropped from Sage ERP X3 because it made clients think the product was costly and inflexible. Armstrong had held the position since April 2012 and joined Sage in 2010 as director of its professional services group. Rich Spring, new to the company in April as chief revenue officer, said North American units sales of X3 are up 40 percent over last.

Rumors were that the fine also related to the creation of Windows 8. ... Donald Trump said in announcing his plans to run for the GOP presidential nomination his background in owning casinos was a perfect qualification for leading the nation.

AVALARA BUYS VAT COMPANY

Patrick Wille, VAT ApplicationsAvalara has acquired VAT Applications, a company based in Belgium that develops the iVAT suite of applications. It is the latest in a series of acquisitions Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based Avalara has made in the indirect tax market. This year, the sales and use tax company has already acquired to specialized indirect tax companies, HotSpot Tax and EZtax. VAT Applications was founded by CEO Patrick Wille in December 2000. The iVAT Suite includes VAT determination and compliance products.

SAGE DROPPING "ERP" FROM X3

SageSage is renaming its midmarket product of the future at the end of next month. Sage ERP X3 will become Sage X3 on July 27. Hallelujahs were said by headline writers everywhere. A Sage product news update says customers react to ERP as being too difficult, complex and expensive while Sage is pushing X3 as faster, simpler and flexible. I thought putting ERP in the name is clunky and also that end users don't know what ERP is. Once I told a friend that and she responded "When we talk about ERP, users just look at us.
