PRO ADVANTAGE TAKES BACK APP

professional advantageReseller and ISV Professional Advantage has taken over the Collection Management application as expected. The Australia-based company is releasing a new version of the product that it originally developed and had been marketed by Microsoft for 12 years. PA says it is working with the channel to support customers and will start selling subscriptions to the application through its own channel starting April 1.

INTUIT'S WARD LEAVING COMPANY

Jill Ward, Intuit The second long-term veteran of Intuit's accounting program is leaving the tax and accounting software company. Jill Ward, SVP of the Accounting Professionals Division, is exiting in March to return to be near her family in Boston, Mass. Ward joined Intuit in 2001 as the VP and general manager of the company's QuickBase operations. Her announcement follows last month's retirement of Rich Walker, who had served as the company's director of global accountant strategy and programs since August 2012 and had been with Intuit for 15 years.

PLEX NAMES CFO

Don Clarke, Plex Manufacturing software vendor Plex has named Don Clarke as CFO. Clarke comes to the Troy, Mich.-based cloud company after having spent five years at Eloqua, which produces marketing automation applications, through its IPO in 2012 and purchase by Oracle early last year. Press accounts interpreted this as another part of Plex's own move towards an IPO of its own, supported by statements from Plex CEO Jason Blessing that it is following the steps to get to the public market.

Gary Farrell, Commerce Systems GroupInterdyn BMI, based in Minneapolis, has moved into the mid-Atlantic region with the purchase of Commerce Systems Group. Both are Dynamics resellers with CSG carrying Dynamics GP and NAV. It also has two interesting vertical packages for the NAV market Dynamics NAV for Lake Management and Pebblestone Fashion. It also handles QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, a phrase that we don't see much anymore on mid-market reseller sites these days

NADELLA NOW MICROSOFT CEO

Satya Nadella, MicrosoftWith Microsoft's information control leaking like the Titanic, there should be no surprise that this week the soft giant named Satya Nadella as the next CEO effective immediately. Ah, Satya, we barely knew ye. So the next question about Nadella, who once headed development for Dynamics, is how much he will he make not that he has taken over from Steve Ballmer. Neither Ballmer or Gates, with their billions in stock, ever took much salary, at least much as measured in the world of big company CEOs. Ballmer had $1.3 million in total compensation for fiscal 2013.

XERO AFTER BANKING, PAYMENTS APPS

Xero is developing products for banking and payments. That brief bit of information came in an executive officers update filed by the company in New Zealand on January 22. The update reported the return of former COO Alastair Grigg last month after a four-month sabbatical. Grigg comes back to the New Zealand-based marketing for low-cost cloud accounting software as general manager, platform ventures.

RKL ADDS TO SAGE 500, X3 POOL

Russell Griffith,  RKL SolutionsRKL Solutions, based in Lancaster, Pa., is emphasizing hiring staff with skills with both Sage 500 and X3 with the addition of Russell Griffith as project manager and solutions architect. Griffith was most recently business development director with Chardon, Ohio,-based reseller e2b Teknologies from January 2011 through January 2014 and was project manager with the VAR starting in February 2003. Before that he, was manager of MAS 500 PSG from February 2001 through February 2008.

AVF UNHOOKS COO, CFO JOBS

Aderonke K. Adelekan, AVF ConsultingAVF Consulting, a Dynamics reseller based in Baltimore, has separated its CFO and COO positions. Robin A. Carter, who had held both, will now focus on the CFO job and on her role as head of contracts and agreements. Aderonke K. Adelekan, who has been with the company since January 2013, has been promoted to COO. Adelekan was previously responsible for defining and implementing project management processes procedures. Before joining AVF, she was chief of staff/business office project manager for Fannie Mae from July 2010 through January 2013.

NETSUITE SALES BOOM; LOSS DOUBLES

Zach Nelson, NetSuite NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson is a generous guy. While reporting his company's results for the year ended December 31, he thanked those he said were responsible. In this week's earnings webcast, Nelson commented, "I feel I must thank our legacy EPP competitors as well. SAP and Microsoft, thank you for creating all this demand. Keep it up. Our data centers are standing by." That being said, the loss for 2013 was $70.4 million, compared to red ink of $35.2 million for 2012. Yes, yes, we know that's a GAAP loss and the company reported non-GAAP earnings of $19.9 million for the most recently ended year, up 4.2 percent from $19.1 million for the prior year.

NADELLA FAVORED AS MICROSOFT CEO

Satya Nadella, MicrosoftNearly seven years ago, Satya Nadella was on the verge of becoming the new president of Microsoft Business Solutions where he had headed development. Then his career took a turn and this week all news reports are betting on Nadella as the candidate who will be chosen to replace Steve Ballmer as CEO. It only seems like yesterday when Nadella and I were talking at Convergence at the Gaylord in Irving, Texas, and he was talking broadly about how great an upcoming Microsoft small business accounting package might be.
