Intuit got the accounting trade press and consultants to Lacerte-Land in Plano, Texas this week, where it trotted out a tent full of dogs and ponies, those in the form of almost every Intuit product on the market that’s aimed at accounting firms. Cougar Mountain Software has released Denali 3.0, which the company says offer a more accessible look and feel. That includes greater flexibility in the customization of the software. The company says the major change is the new look with easy-to-use navigation and bigger, updated icons. There are four new views: a workflow chart specific to each module that organizes the most-used processes; a new toolbar with update icons for the most commonly used applications; a pane that provides a menu button for viewing corresponding window options; and an information area that provides a quick description of the area being displayed.

Epicor Software is spending $16 million to buy HR specialist Spectrum Human Resource Systems Corp. Spectrum has about 100 employees and more than 430 direct customers and another 1,800 through OEM relationships. Spectrum’s revenue for 2010 is projected at $14 million. Epicor said Spectrum will become the core of the new Epicor Human Capital Management Group, which puts Epicor into a new market, in addition to those in the manufacturing, distribution, retail, hospitality and services sector. EXACT DROPS ONLINE PILOT

Exact is halting a pilot of its Exact Online in Turkey in January and ended a joint venture with Triodor, which was involved in the test. The decision appears to be one of the first steps taken as part of this month’s announced refocus of strategy. A part of that was an announcement that Exact will reduce its involvement outside of five key countries, including the United States. Executives had said introducing Exact Online into new countries would take longer than anticipated. Instead of moving into more countries, Exact said it will focus on expanding the product in the Netherlands and Belgium first.

Cyma Systems, which decided this year to concentrate on HR and payroll, has released Version 12 of its accounting and payroll software that includes advanced HR capabilities. Called HRexpress, the new offering integrates human resources, payroll, employee self service and reporting capabilities. The application also includes advanced backorder processing in the Purchase Order, Sales Order and Inventory systems and what the company termed significant improvements to Job Cost billing. Cyma says it also improved GL reporting and added significant new capabilities to payroll.

Infor, which may or may not be very interested in its channel, has begun ramping up the executive team under Charles Phillips, the former Oracle president who took over in October as CEO from founder James Schaper who remains as chairman. The company has announced the hiring of three new execs, including Duncan Angove, president of products, market and software, who was most recently general manager of the Retail Global Business Unit at Oracle Corporation

Red Wing Software has added an inventory module to CenterPoint Accounting. According to the announcement, users are able to maintain unlimited number of prices or price calculations for each item, receive real-time inventory updates, as well as accurate GL account assignments that guarantee all GL balances and inventory valuation reports match. There’s not much more to be said because neither the release nor the website add much except the fact that the product can “Keep track of items with corresponding units of measure and three optional levels of pricing.”
