SAP will probably having test programs for telephone companies to resell its cloud-based Business By Design software operating this year, according to Kevin Gilroy, VP of channels and ecosystems. "I think telcos have a great reach into the market place. They have a great experience with monthly billing. They have large sales forces particularly in the SME space," Gilroy said. The VP did not provide any names but said SAP has discussions going on with telcos, which he continued would not be a threat to VARs but which would work with "the local VAR in the implementation and consulting component. I think it is a big plus."

Pascal Houllion, listed as regional CEO designate on the Sage North America website, is preparing to make the rounds with members of the Sage channel. Meetings are being set up in the Chicago and New York areas, with one reportedly being set for February 10 in New York with Houillon and Tom Miller, VP of channels. Houllion is the executive who has served as CEO of Sage France and is taking over from Sue Swenson once she retires from the company sometime before early July. In a brief note, Miller said more meetings are to be scheduled, but did not provide the names of other cities.

SaaS vendor NetSuite has completed product integration with Visa’s CyberSource subsidiary that the company said gives end users access to the CyberSource Decision Manager fraud management system. NetSuite users can send transaction details to Decision Manager by enabling a checkbox. A CyberSource report issued in January said fraudulent transactions represent about 1.2 percent of the dollar volume of online sales. I’m happy that NetSuite issued the CyberSource release because that way I don’t have to give prominence to another press release issued in the last few days for its downloadable Hairball Elimination Kit. Faye Business Systems Group, based in Woodland Hills, Calif., has published an integration between Sugar CRM and Sage’s MAS 90 and 200 lines. Faye, a SugarCRM reseller and MAS developer, began selling SugarCRM in September and was one of several Sage resellers joining the open source CRM vendor’s channel in 2010. Owner David Faye said the appeal to Sugar, besides playing David to Salesforce’s goliath, is that “It’s got most of the features you’d ever want from CRM. It’s incredibly customizable.” There’s also the appeal of an open source product so that resellers can fix products and are not dependent on a software manufacturer. Faye also said that even though it’s not clear how ready the market is for SaaS-based products, the cloud has the buyer’s attention and traditional software makers “are playing catch up.”

Blytheco, Sage’s largest reseller, has named Al Saadia as Accpac Practice Leader as the company branches into the Accpac Practice line. The company said Saadia has more than 20 years experience as controller and business analyst along with experience in implementing and consulting for Accpac. He will report to Blytheco COO Ruth Menter. Blytheco, which has been Sage’s Partner of the Year several times, managed that without selling Accpac so it would seem that the company ought to keep a hold on the top spot. Read more...

DSD LOOKING AT MFG PACKAGES

If it was just the fact that Doug Deane, owner of Sage reseller, DSD Business Systems, said he was looking at manufacturing packages outside of Sage, I would make such a big deal of this. But I sense a general change in the manufacturing software business. The fact that Exact Macola seems to have really faded from the scene may have helped spur movement. Deane also mentioned the flight of manufacturing from the U.S., which keeps shaking things up. At the same time, there is the movement upstream, Microsoft with Dynamics AX, and Sage with X3, that is reshaping this market. Deane is looking at Syspro, among others, and he wouldn’t be the first to move that way. Accounting Systems Inc. and Hightower both picked up Syspro. Read more...
HIRING TURNING UP

For all I know, Lawson Software has been doing this for some time. But the fact that the vendor’s come page has the headline “Lawson is hiring” does indicate that the economy is getting better in the software market. There were nine positions posted this week alone. In December, Columbus IT Partner, the Danish Dynamics reselling, advertised for AX consultants in Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the United States. Last month, I got copied on an email from a reseller asking acquaintances to steer manufacturing job seekers its way. This fits with other economic metrics including Intuit's economic report for December that showed small business employment was up by .3 percent for the month, which the company said translation into an annual growth rate of about 3.4 percent.

Salesorder.com has an API connector available for eCommerce integration, although it’s still a beta product according to the headline with the announcement. The official description is that “This connector comes with pre-built connectors and also a custom connector where you (or we) can develop your own integration to a cart of your choice.” Salesorder.com is owned by Ray Tetlow, who also owns Skyytek, once NetSuite’s top VAR and now ramping up on sales of Business By Design.
