Karl Rove is leaving Fox News. His plans apparently include fact gathering to write the definitive history of Mitt Romney’s presidential administration. ... I was standing in the back of a community room at a nursing home listening to a group of visitors entertaining residents with music. “What are you doing?” someone asked.

In the new version of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, George Bailey’s savings and loan gets federal bailout money and he gives himself a generous raise and takes the family on a round the world trip. ... Black Friday sales have given birth to Black Friday weekend sales. Next year, this will be extended by having the 30 days after Thanksgiving declared Black Friday month.

In light of the sex scandal involving retired General David Petraeus and General John Allen, Playboy plans a special issue “Men of the Pentagon”. There will also be an accompanying calendar that features a different general for each month. I would quip that CIA Chief Petraeus explained his conduct as involving extraordinarily sensitive undercover work. But that just seems too obvious.

The 7-11 chain is offering blue cups with the name Obama and them and red cups with Romney and encouraging customers to vote in the "7 Election." There had been plans for Ron Paul cups, but they had to be pulled from the market because they did not hold water. ... During this week, the roar and noise was unbearable. But enough about N.J. Governor Chris Christie's press conferences. The hurricane was pretty loud also.

A new cross cultural event will feature the combination of Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” with Wagner’s massive “Das Ring Der Nibelungen” called "Das Ring Der Sauron" in which the Rhine maidens recoil at the sight of the strange, furry little people. Then in a face off of evil, Sauron destroys the Ice Giants when they are melted by the heat of Mordor.

A PBS program this week noted that many modern humans have genes from the Neanderthals. My daughter, who took a DNA test year, notes the results showed that 2.6 percent of her genes are Neanderthal. I think would wife’s opinion is that my percentage is a lot higher. She says that Neanderthal women were constantly yelling at their mates to pick their animal skins off the floor of the cave.

The phrase "Take a seat" has taken on a whole new meaning to the flying public. The last flight I took, the flight attendant announced, "Not only can your seat cushion be used as a flotation device, the whole seat row is portable and can be used as a flotation couch." But the airlines lost no time in turning the bad publicity about coach seats that started moving around during the flight into a revenue-producing opportunity.

Author J.K. Rowling says she might write more Harry Potter books. In one proposed shocking scene in “The Return of the Muggles”, Lord Voldemort turns to the magic lad and intones “Harry, I am your father.” And as Potter and his friends move into their college years, In “Hogwarts Toga Party” a drunken Harry turns the residents of Slytherin house into frogs but can’t remember the next day where he put them.
