CBIZ LEAVING TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS

In an earnings Webcast this week, CEO Steve Gerard said management concluded the company lacked the size and scope to compete effectively and that further investment would not produce acceptable profits. Three technology subsidiaries employ about 100 people and had roughly $14 million revenue in 2009. These units are CBIZ Technologies and CBIZ Network Solutions, and a smaller unit whose services include VoIP. The company sold Dynamics GP and CRM and Syspro, among other products. CBIZ had a good year, considering. Net income for 2009 was $31.4 million, up from $30.4 million as revenue grew to $162.2 million from $158.6 million for 2008. However, for the fourth quarter net income dropped to $1.3 million, down 56.2 percent from just over $3 million in last year's corresponding period. Revenue grew to $162.3 million, up 2.3 percent from $158.6 million a year earlier. Executives said one problem was year-end financial planning revenue didn't materialize in the normal volume.
