Complicating this is the fact SmartVault has versions integrated with Intuit's Lacerte and ProSeries packages, which is likely to fuel existing speculation Intuit might buy Reckon. Certainly, it sounds as though Reckon might be choosing to go with a known name in this country, rather than try to establish Virtual Cabinet. SmartVault will continue to operate under that name and its CEO Eric Pulaski. A Reckon spokesman says, "With respect to Virtual Cabinet, our immediate focus is on increasing our footprint in the enterprise level document management and portal market in the UK and Australia/NZ. We are continuing to evaluate opportunities in other markets such as the U.S." The other question is whether the document management products might be the way Reckon will pave the way to enter America with its low-end cloud product, Reckon One, which is being sold in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
