Also, chief technology officer Taylor Stansbury will also leave the company on January 1 and will be succeeded by Marianna Tessel, SVP and chief product development officer for the group Goodarzi has overseen. The change is  not surprising as the company clearly was preparing a successor. The question was whether it was going to be Goodarzi or Dan Wernikoff, who headed the Consumer Group until becoming a strategic advisor to Smith after the company ended its year on July 31. Wernikoff and Goodarzi had swapped jobs in May 2016 in what looked like a CEO tryout to replace Smith, who assumed his position in January 2008. Goodarzi joined Intuit in 2004. He left in 2010 to briefly serve as CEO of Nexant, but rejoined Intuit in 2011 as chief information officer. Goodarzi then became EVP and GM of TurboTax in August 2013 and held the position until swapping roles with Wernikoff.
